Why is terminating his contract (paying all of his wages) better than loaning him out (paying some/most of his wages)?

that isn't what i meant. what i meant by terminating his contract was basically saying both parties should agree to just tear up the contract and make him a free agent, then he can go sign a new deal with whatever club will take him, and he can take the wages they offer him.

i believe thats what we just did with kola, right? we terminated the contract, especially ripping it up, and he then went and signed a contract with another club. we arent paying his full wages for what would have been the remainder of his arsenal contract, i dont think

No player will ever agree to that unless they have a better offer elsewhere. At best you might get a compromise where only part of wages are paid.

Have to agree with Goon. Players don't tend to agree to something like that. Even Kola was paid the rest of his 6 months wages when his contract was terminated.

he was? well like i said, then it comes down to auba. his 3 choices seem to be:

accept the deal to go to the saudi club
rip up his contract, let him leave on a free and he can sign for lesser wages with psg or real madrid or some other club
stay here and get vanquished to the areta shadowlands and not play again for 18 months

if he has no sporting ambition, he'll take the ozil route. he doesnt strike me as that type though. i guess we'll see

Or he can leave and get his full wage paid, partly funded by us. Which is probably the most likely outcome.

But agree. It’s good that we got rid and are getting rid of a lot of the deadwood but our squad is a bit worrying at the moment.

Chambers getting injured right at the beginning of Arteta’s tenure for 18 months didn’t help either

IMO the purge will not be complete until such time as the first 4 names plus Leno have departed.

I also forgot Pepe = 6 more senior players to go if we don't include Holding, with only Laca and Xhaka considered as being current starting players, whilst PEA and Pepe were at the start of the season.
IMO the purge seen thus far in this transfer window is more about squad filler rather than the starting XI or match day squad, and does little more than reducing the wage bill and having bodies as depth.
