Before today he's been on the bench for the full 90 in four of the last six league games. With two CMs leaving it would've made a world of difference to give him minutes, considering Romano's tweet it makes sense that he's almost off.

It'll be Lokonga and Xhaka for Liverpool 2x, Forest, Spurs away and maybe Burnley, four games straight in ten days (or 5 in 16). Pray Lokonga doesn't break down or Xhaka does a Xhaka

The writing was on the wall for him the moment he decided to go on Instagram and cry about wanting to leave. You can’t do that with Arteta around and expect to retain a career at Arsenal really.

Can’t say I’m too arsed. The guy’s been here a long time and never really nailed down a position and he’s already 24. Seems to lack the fire in the belly that you need to be a top player too.

Apparently he is one of our current COVID cases, along with Lokonga and now Tommi.

Agree completely - but as I recall when I wanted to sell for £15-20m that summer most on here thought it was robbery and that we shouldn’t sell for less than £30-40m. Madness.

We really need to smarten up and let players go at the right time, Willock is a rare case of us getting it right.

Obviously those who thought we shouldn't sell him, me included, did not think we should keep him and never play him. Selling him was of course a better option than that.

The issue isn't that we should have let him go for 15m Vs what is happening now. If we weren't going to play him more than 180mims over 6 months them we should have sold him for whatever we could possibly have gotten for him then as his valuation will have only gone down with such little game time.

Remember this is a guy who can play multiple positions, had just received a call up to the national squad and managed to get MOTM awards in both his starts in CM having not played there for a long time.

Deffo worth more than 10m but how can we possibly argue his worth during negotiations with Roma when we can't even give him any minutes?

We should have sold him regardless, he was at peak selling point. I get why we didn't, it didn't seem like enough, but we should have. Insert a few clauses if you want to make yourself feel better.

Ainsley should have gotten more mins now and then, especially over guys like Cedric and Elneny, but playing 5 mins here or another start there was never going to make any real difference to his value, anything short of being a regular starter was always going to make it drop. And that's my point, if we don't see these guys as future starters (I didn't, and it seems unlikely that Arteta did) in the team then we should strike when the iron is hot.

We've completely bundled Eddie too. These are two HG players who we should have been looking at north of £30m combined that we're going to end up getting shy of £10m because in both cases we were not ruthless enough to make the call early, or at the very least loan them out to build value.

Looking at that thread, the people who thought so was when Wolves bid 22m that summer after we won FA cup and he got an England call up

I don't like the word "ruthless", it's really just knowing when to sell. Not like you could accuse Arteta of not being ruthless enough in plenty of other instances anyway.

Don't think that's the major problem either, we just have a reputation as being shit sellers so that's what the offers look like when clubs want our players. I know ofty hates when people compare clubs so let's look at the buying instead of the selling club - the same Roma paid 40m for Abraham who had 5 goals in his last Chelsea season with a year on his contract, they also paid 12m for 33yo Rui Patricio, 15m for 31yo Smalling, 20m for Shomurodov etc. When they got Mkhitaryan for free and were apparently close to an agreement for 29 year old Euros-boosted Xhaka for 12m why would they offer us more than 10m for AMN.

Situations like these are also why I don't think Edu's word has any weight in the club. There are managers like Wenger who take the long term welfare of the club's finances, squad and team results into account and there are guys like Arteta who clearly would rather let players waste away in the stands waiting around in case of an injury crisis, which is (sorta) fair enough also as long as his boss tells him to fuck off and make do with 25 players like everyone else. No reason I could think of Edu wouldn't want to do that either so he most likely can't.

And I who wanted to keep him wanted him to be a starter over Cedric/Bellerin/Chambers last season and over Xhaka/Lokonga this season.

That's the whole point Quincy bfor those of us who didn't want to sell for 15m, we couldn't have envisioned him being stuck begging for mins here and there.

He'd have been ideal to play RB before the likes of Cedric et Al as well as covering for LB whenever Tierney went on his extended breaks.

Additionally this season there was plenty of room to give him games in CM especially with Xhaka injured and a rookie like Lokonga was being played having just joined.

I don't think AMN fancies talking the role of Elneny and Cedric at the club either.

I'm all for prioritising academy products, but they have to be good enough. And the criteria has to be whether or not they're good enough to be a starter in a team that matches our ambitions, not if they're better than players who we'd struggle to give away.

I'm all for academy graduates - I love it more tham most when they get to the first team, but that doesn't give them a free pass.

My opinion on Maitland-Niles is that his attitude fucking stinks and he has himself and no one else to blame for tossing away his Arsenal career.

Genuinely think he's the best we've got, but we'll survive. Shame we're forcing our own products like him and Willock out and keeping the assholes though.
