Yeah they need to play. They are not close to starting for us so they should be where they can get minutes under their belts and develop. I mean Eddie is one thing but its clear as day Arteta has little to no time for Nelson so why is he kept around the club?

We're making the same mistake we did in the summer by the looks of it. Should have had loans lined up for most of these guys on January 1st. They could have started 3-4 games in the Championship already. There's never any efficiency in anything we do.

I believe Nelson blocked a loan in August. He needs a new agent. I suspect that asshole has made Nelson buy into the idea that he’s black Jesus instead of focusing on getting minutes and proving himself.

I think if we wanted to loan them we'd already have done it. Seems like we are keeping them because Arteta wants to keep them and it would cost us in terms of their value and their required quality without these loan experience.

It could be that we want them to play in the early FA Cup games before loaning them out.

On the other hand, Arteta was adamant that Eddie wasn't going anywhere until the summer despite playing about 10 mins out of the last 500.

I remember Wenger used to resist making signings to cover for injuries, he'd say what happens when the players are back? I've a feeling Arteta on the other hand seems to want 3rd choice players for positions 'just in case'. He spoke about how we might need Mustafi just the other day.

Makes more sense atm in the current condensed season, particularly after comments about the team being leggy v Palace.

If we even want these guys to make it, or if we want to sell them for decent money, they need games and a chance to show what they can do.

If we don't bring anyone in we should change to an inverted midfield 3 so as to give ourselves more options.

IMO we should probably do so in any case so as to improve our transition forward = more/closer passing options for the likes of Xhaka/Luiz & get the likes of ESR on the ball sooner rather than later.

Its a very short term way of thinking which I worry about with Arteta. There are no signs he's building for the future. I don't think he sees himself as Arsenal manager for the long term whether he does well or not.

Based on what? Willian? Do we know how many choices he had to choose from in the summer?

The talk of needing 5-6 players to build this team and the discussion of the importance of getting specific players to fit specific roles doesn't feel like short-term thinking to me.

Eh? How is Arteta responsible for that? He's given plenty of young players a chance. Balogun potentially leaving likely has very little to do with Arteta and more to do with the fact we didn't sort out a new contract with his agent earlier.

I’m supportive of how Arteta has dealt with kids this season to be honest.
Early stage of the season, we went into a dense schedule with barely a summer break. He appeared to handle that by rotating players between league and Europa, with kids in the latter.

Now that Europa has paused, he has integrated the best of the lot, ESR. And he didn’t waste time integrating Martinelli. The rest haven’t proven themselves to be better options than Xhaka and co. I don’t agree with Arteta on everything but this seems fine

I'd think perhaps a lack of support in terms of the squad rebuild may be/have been a determining factor.

Balogun is an idiot if he leaves, I've no idea how you can watch Saka, ESR and Martinelli playing such a big role with only old man Laca and Eddie in your way and decide you rather take your chances elsewhere.

I'm pretty sure he's gone though, he's gone from being very visible in training videos and pictures to invisible from the clubs social media feed.
