That's not Buendia, so the question then becomes do we think Partey can play as a DM with two CMs (Buendia and ?) ahead of him? And if so, do we think Buendia and ESR/Saka can play as those two CMs?

Buendia is an AM type who can play off the flanks. IIRC he started as a #10 before he joined Norwich.
He likes to occupy the half spaces ahead of the midfield & I do not recall him as having yet played as CM in an inverted midfield 3.

IIRC Buendia has been discussed on our Wish Lists since the summer we signed Pepe.

I'd absolutely love to have him here and would play him across the 3 in the 4231, but not as an automatic starting player.
I'd initially look to use him much like LFC have used Jota this season prior to his injury = bring him in off the bench and then use him to rotate the players until he proves he is better than the current options on merit.

EDIT - Whilst Buendia is my #1 choice as far as an AM type goes, if Norwich are genuine about their valuation then I'd look to Brandt as an alternative.

Thats fucked. We can make a reasonable push for Europe with a 1-2 quality additions and fast track our cycle. Shame about Norwich doing so well in the Championship.

old Charlie watts says we're back on the case. would cost less than odegaard and is a little more dynamic in the esr mould. 15 goals and 16 assists this season as well. yes it's the championship but those are good numbers

I was more on board with aouar when I had the sense that arteta knew what was doing. after seeing what's happened this season, I'm back to thinking we just need a player thats provides turn-key creativity from open play and set pieces

He’s been good for at least 2 seasons. The player is quality. The main question for us is one of preferred system and where all our best pieces fit together

I just can't see this happening. How often does a newly promoted team thats just won the championship sell their best player? He's still got years on his deal too.

I like him better than the other AMs we're linked to though.

Yeah, my thought too. The right time to get him was last season when they got relegated. His price will be inflated now unless Norwich are just grateful for the player sticking with them through their season in the second tier.

Supposedly the agreement was that he'd stay and help them back into Premier League again, and then he could leave. I think Norwich would be better off selling and buying another three PL level players for the money too. That could be the difference between going down again and staying up.

But yeah, Buendia is the one I want out of all the attacking players we've been linked with. It just makes so much sense. He's natural out wide and comfortable as a #10 too, which is exactly the profile we want.

This is potentially a Maddison level talent. If we can get our hands on him, we should. As much as I like Odegaard I suspect that this bloke might be useful right now as he can do more things, including scoring goals. We always need to have multiple players on the field who are legitimate scoring threats in addition to progressing the ball.

He was exclusively used as RWF last season, but I think he has played across the 3 previously.
From RWF he likes to operate in the half space in the right channel.
