The goalkeeper coach should be fired for this recommendation. Arteta should have played Leno. You played him against Liverpool, what’s the difference tonight?

the difference is now he wants to focus on the league and this was viewed as a distraction. back then we had a chance.

Imagine thinking goalkeepers need rest.

I am all for rotating keepers when we have 2 quality ones, but one is blind if they watch this Icelandic fisherman in training and thinks he is anywhere near ready to start a game in professional football.

i criticize arteta as much as the next man, but it looks like he was throwing the game by playing runnarsson. he wanted out of this competition. if leno plays a blinder and we advance to the semis that's two more games (it's still two legs right?) he doesn't want to play.

Don't think I have ever seen a keeper intentionally stand at one post and let the whole goal open only to concede at that spot he is standing. Shocking positioning but punished by his shit handling.

Any chance he saw Martinez get thrown in the deep end after Leno went down and decided he’d better make sure his keepers get match practise?

Runnarson didn’t have too much to do in the Europa League games, so maybe he thought this would be the last chance in a while to see what this guy’s got.
