I don't really want to fall into the trap of bashing Tierney just make Hector look better, I think he's great. But I will say one thing, he was all over the place against City and got beaten by his man half a dozen times. Salah also gave him a torrid time. He came away without too much critisism, which is fine. Hector got beaten once against City and people were pinning the loss on him.
Every full back in the league gets beaten one on one regularly. Like you say it happens to Tierney too. There's been a lot of waffle about how Son targetted Bellerin etc but Tierney got roasted in the previous game by Traore. It happens them both and it will happen again and it will happen whatever right back you bring in.
It's one thing to say every fullback in the league gets beaten regularly and another to equate Bellerin and Tierney on that front. Traore is incredible one-v-one, probably one of the very best in football full stop right now, and by my count he got round Tierney twice on the outside - one of which resulted in a goal for them. He would have had Bellerin on toast every single time he went at him without even trying. Tierney also played Traore as good as you will see anyone, anywhere play him in our game at the Emirates last season.
Tierney has had some bad games here and there, but he is young, adapting to facing top players, and still learning. Occasionally the really top boys like Salah or Sterling have caught him out here and there, but I bet you he works it out because he's an extraordinarily good reader of an attacker's inention when he's facing them up. He'll get stronger and quicker as he reaches his physical prime in the next couple of years too. Hector might get a bit more street wise, but the only scope I see for improvement in his game is to add some muscle to his frame, and gain some power to go with the good speed he still has.
