He is everything I love in a midfielder. Almost always sees the pass if it's on, and usually finds a way to progress the play even when it doesn't loook on. The anti-Xhaka/Elneny. Look at the relentless forward passing in this one as an example:

I'd start him right away, but Arteta doesn't seem like the manager to take risks. He's pretty conservative. I have no doubt that Wenger would start him though.

Eduardo too from memory, played mostly cup games for the first 3-4 months. Although I suppose you could argue that he and Reyes were a lot more raw than Partey while Arshavin came in from off-season in Russia.

We did play Willian against Fulham which was 8 days after he had joined, so that was a relatively quick and successful integration. If he starts, I can imagine as part of a 343 with Xhaka, Bellerin and AMN.

Both Auba and Mkhi started together against Everton right after they signed as well. Partey is a massive upgrade and a star in his prime, he's not the guy Wenger would ease into the team I think.

Monreal started the day after he was signed vs Stoke no less. Auba also was in the starting XI a couple days after arriving, think we played Everton there

I'm actually all for playing Xhaka alongside Partey early on to ensure Partey doesn't feel the pressure to do too much. While Xhaka certainly is limited, he does serve as a foundation for other players to build upon.

But if we drop Ceballos for Partey I don't think we'll be improving much. We need to drastically increase our midfield presence up field and have players capable of beating a press. Xhaka offers neither of those, but Ceballos does.

I'd drop the 3-4-3 and immediately move to a really flat 4-3-3

Ceballos can play slightly ahead of Partey, but I think it's time we have a midfield that can boss a team. We can't continue to rely on Auba's brilliance helping us overcome our low possession and expect goal output.

Actually got to thinking, Partey clearly likes playing forward passes, and Atletico do a good job having wide players (wingers/FBs) and central players (target striker) for Partey to pass in to.

Any concerns that Partey may not find many forward options if we persist with the 3-4-3 as only Lacazette does a good job showing for the ball? Will he be able to find Pepe, and help keep him up field?

The 433 formation is also my preference. I’m just thinking what would Arteta do if he were to start Partey in his first game especially against Manchester City.

Otherwise, I prefer 433 with Ceballos-Partey in tandem and Willian up top. I want skill and speed of ball movement in the midfield.

We're a work in progress whereas At. Madrid are a well oiled machine with a manager who has been there for nearly a decade so it's a definite risk in the short term. But really it's just a question of getting the right system in place which was true on Sunday evening too.

It looks like Atletico really fumbled this situation.
A contract goes both ways. You can mess up and overpay a player like Ozil. Or you can exploit someone like the Bulls with Pippen and Atletico with Partey.

I think we could see a 433 v the top teams where we'd want an extra body in midfield - possibly an inverted 3 to provide cover or transition into a back3, and play 4231 with a CAM for those teams we are expected to dominate possession and field position who want to stand off and play deep.

Diversity can be many things but it’s nice to see physical diversity for a start. London is a cosmopolitan place.
