😆 especially when the Emirates is filled with tourists 9 seats out of 10. Partey used to play under Simeone which is more pressure than that on its own, let alone adding 70k Atletico fans in the Wanda with their Frente Atletico ultras who are mostly racist pieces of shit.

Yeah all those tourists really took it out on Xhaka two seasons ago v Palace.

There were a lot more tourists in 2006-2012, less so now. Lot more of a local crowd these days. Maybe pandemic related but probably because we are shit as well.

Tourists or not the Emirates isn't a particularly hostile crowd, there's definitely more pressure elsewhere. Arsenal might be bigger historically or not but Atletico are undoubtedly bigger now, they're a European top team while we're not in Europe. Kids like Saka ESR or Martinelli play in front of this crowd and aren't flustered but someone like Partey who's won a European cup before is?

I agree about the different atmospheres in ground, but I also agree with Sicario in the sense that I think the scrutiny is much greater at Arsenal - both in the much larger global fanbase we have, which shows itself online, and the demands from the press, pundits etc.

The reporting around the club is absolutely brutal - it's negative and critical and it never relents. There's such a gap between where we are and have been versus what is expected from us, and it's constant, no matter how badly we seem to do or for how long. That makes playing for Arsenal difficult, and harder than most clubs, for sure.

I don't extra pressure is the issue at all, because it doesn't exist. There is no more scrutiny at Arsenal than Athletico, especially over the time Partey had played at both.

I honestly couldn't disagree more. There's a big gap in where we are and what we in here expect from us, not what the media and the board expect from the team. We've had a couple of wins against frankly shit teams and everything and everyone was upbeat about us and how it's all starting to come together.

I'll be blunt, if it were difficult to play for Arsenal it'd be difficult to manage Arsenal - and seeing how Arsenal are 7th with a negative goal difference in December, after outspending the whole world last summer and significant investment before and Arteta after two years at the job is still our manager, why would anybody feel any pressure at all? Because Robbie interviews angry fans after losses?

RB Leipzig are a club who aren't expected to win anything in Germany because of how rich and strong Bayern are yet they sacked Marsch this weekend, a coach with a lot more credentials, because he's underperforming to how the board expects the team to. Silva got 28 goals in the league last season at a weaker team yet he's on the bench for them now half the time because he hasn't gelled with the team yet.

For us on the other hand I lost count how many former players said there's no pressure in playing for Arsenal. You really need to start looking at Arsenal in the cold light of the day because we haven't been a club under big scrutiny from anyone relevant for years, least of all our board.

Don't agree with the pressure being an issue here. But I also think it's lazy to suggest it's therefore Arteta's fault. Sometimes players don't work out a club - could be language, could be culture, could be unable to play in a different system...could be a myriad of things.

It's definitely lazy, but that's the life of a manager who's not convincing everyone with what's happening on the pitch. Guys like Klopp, Pep and Conte certainly don't have a 100% success rate with players who were formerly considered very good. Far from it.

It's less about pressure of playing for Arsenal than it is the pressure of having to carry a midfield imo. Arteta has designed the system to load it all on Partey's shoulders, which is very different from what he had at Atletico. But for me the main reason Partey has flopped is because he can't stay fit for longer than 2 mins. Looked superb in preseason then got injured. Looked good after returning then got injured. Now he looks terrible - though I actually thought he was pretty good in the second half against Utd. He probably would have had ups and downs but he still would have been a massive positive overall if he could be depended upon fitness wise.

His name was amongst those as potential replacements for Arteta this time last year. Has he been the victim or has he contributed to his own demise, and would he still be a better option for us?

TBH if he comes back from AFCON and continues to struggle then I'd sell him in the summer.
