Tbf while willock is fairly raw, id like to see a player of his profile as one of the midfield three. Partey, creative guy (aouar, buendia), high energy B2B with a nose for runs into the box (an SMS type)

You don't reckon Partey is the first choice Willock with Willock being the second-choice Willock in this squad? I'm having a hard time seeing the XI any other way. I mean we're obviously not benching Xhaka.

Yeah in the short term certainly partey will play the B2B role next to xhaka. I havent seen him makes runs off the ball into the box much, but he wasn't really given that job in atleti. He plays higher for ghana so maybe theres another facet of his game he can show if given more freedom

Maybe Xhaka/Partey can play out a bit like Kroos/Casemiro in terms of distribution patterns and spacing. Looking forward to seeing it unfold but agree with Gazza M that Willock (if he raises his game another level this season) would be the kind of profile I'd like to see in there.

Arteta will probably start with Partey - Xhaka - Ceballos and Willian out right int he 433. And go more adventurous from there. Still better than the 343 as we deploy it.

I'll be surprised if Partey is used as our deepest CM and I suspect we'll see him in a more proactive role with the team looking to play higher up the pitch, with and without possession.

Yup. Really encouraging. As I said before, he is the creative buy. Give him movement in front and he will pick out our guys.
If we have two fast centre backs and are able to get territory, he will become extremely dangerous. A large part of why he hasn’t looked dangerous is because Atletico typically give up territory, so much of this passing and running is happening from very deep.
