Think those rumours are made up. If they aren't either they're trying to deflect the blame to us as if what we did was immoral or they're genuine morons. The whole story doesn't add up anyhow why would we go out and tell them we weren't going to trigger the clause in the first place?

Because we have been negotiating for a swap deal and get a better deal, lesser than the clause. We have been acting broke entire summer

Unlikely we really pleaded poverty clubs try to get discounts all the time, even less likely Atletico are dumb enough to believe we are that broke. More likely Atletico were hoping we'd be going for Aouar instead of Partey so they wouldn't have to replace him with Roca who's now gone to Bayern

Atletico will be fine.

The fucked up La-liga rules mean that they can trigger the release clause of any player at a Spanish club(with that 50 million) upto 30 days after the window closes tonight.

Shitty part is that the selling club wont be allowed to buy a replacement.

Apparently it is contingency plan built on for deals like this which went through on the deadline day.

I thought that rule was only for clubs with a player suffering a long term injury? Otherwise what's the difference of a potential victim club to Atletico?

No, apparently also applies for last minute sales triggered by buy-out clauses.

Only catch is that the replacement player wont be able to be registered for European competitions.

Buendia + Partey would actually be a very clever combo if it happened. Buendia is an upgrade over Willian in the system we played yesterday. And then with Partey we don’t need to play a midfielder in that weird semi-centre back roll that El Neny and Xhaka are deployed in.

Also they got rid of that injury rule for this season.

Thank god Sancho didn't end up at United. It would have been such a waste of talent. No serious player should be going anywhere near that club.

The fact that Sancho has seen Paul Pogba's monster talent wither and die because he went to a club with no ambition, no players near his level since the day he walked through the door, no real pressure to perform and win (Ozil and Arsenal are an example of this too), and still wanted to go there, probably does not bode well for his future. I think he's cocky and petty enough to want to stick it to Pep and City, and that was a factor, but still, what was he thinking? At least he hasn't pushed for the move publicly. But he's clearly not the sharpest tool in the box to want to entrust a single day of his career to a manager like Solskjaer and a guy like Ed Woodward running the club.

You're making excuses for Pogba. Talented player, but has never shown himself capable to play well over an extended period of time. Lots of players can display some skill in short bursts here and there. Pogba has never done that. Ridiculously overrated player.

I suppose when assessing his ability, it's a case of separating his technical ability from what goes on between his ears. But I still think if he'd have gone to the right club and coach at that critical time when he made a really bad choice to go to United, he could have become a top drawer player. Being surrounded by some of the best players in the world, in a functioining team, with real pressure and expectations, it will make or break the careers of most. Very few are so good that they'll make it to the top no matter what.

You don't sign Willian at the start of the window and upgrade on deadline day. The Beundia stuff sounds like rubbish to me.

No way he’s gone from 50 to 260k. Bell figure sounds more reasonable.

I can imagine it goes up to £260k (or something like that) if we hit every single clause including winning some trophies, getting back into the CL etc in which case none of us would mind.

I think Willian was signed as a winger though, and that's where he has started to far too. He was brought in for better or worse because Arteta doesn't trust Pepé.

Buendia feels like an alternative to Aouar (and a much better one at that: https://www.squawka.com/en/comparison-matrix/?compare=NvNyGJTzpJq2xkEWITdGi )

I absolutely refuse to get hyped up about this though because it's definitely bull. There hasn't been a single whisper about Buendia this summer despite him being pretty much the perfect fit and possessing every creative attribute that we lack.

I'd take him.

Awesome player and rooting for him. Hope he finds a decent side at whatever level and just enjoys himself.

Can see Dani-Xhaka-Partey midfield working well and really solid

How about Ceballos - Partey - Saka instead, Doc?

Yep with Saka Pepe Auba up front.

If after signing Partey we are still playing 5 defenders something will be hugely wrong

We are just waiting for confirmation on Thomas Partey (to Arsenal) now. I was told by someone very close to the player a couple of hours ago that the deal was going to happen.

They have met the buyout clause of around £45million. It's just a question of waiting for that confirmation, which I think will happen.

Think I would rather keep Saka wide for now, but it could work.. that's the great think about having Partey, gives us so much more options as  him + Xhaka/Dani next to him is really solid and dynamic.. so opens up a lot of options in a 3 man midfield.. Willian as well..

Just feel the 3 I mentioned is a really dominant midfield and a good mix which would free up the front 3 to focus on doing damage.

If AFCBell is to be believed (I mean obviously he knows what's going on), we have always planned to activate his release clause. I doubt we went in for Aouar for fun, so there's only one reason why we are activating it so late instead of at the start of the window.

I'd like to see Saka play in central midfield. Think that would get the best out of him (quick passing, good movement off the ball, and can make deep runs in behind and between lines).

There's virtually no upside to triggering it early other than having more time to bed him in. You keep negotiating, hoping Atletico will budge at some point and when they you realise they don't you pay the clause. It's not even a particularly high clause and the player hinted several times he wanted to come to us bloke was criminally underpaid. Atletico kept bluffing now they're in public with their pants full of shit of course they'll try and spin it some way.

Willock joins QPR. Will be interesting to see how he does there.

Chris Willock, not Joe Willock.

I was looking forward to seeing him paired with Partey and +1. Great he finally gets an opportunity to get more minutes (you'd hope) some where else.

The Saliba loan quest is a true bummer

Dream lives then. Should have questioned Clrnc's shithousery given it was fucking QPR.

That Chris Willock news got me this afternoon too 😆

Clrnc right now:

? | Memphis Depay is staying at Lyon, according to RMC - Barcelona just told OL they would not be completing the deal - talks had got to the stage where Lyon had got so far as to send over the documentation to complete the agreement.

Meanwhile in paris.....

Depay can negotiate a bosman in 3 months

Rene-Adelaide also snubbed Hertha

Means Lyon have fairly big loss and look (so far) unlikely to make CL next season

I remember he was rated higher than Joe. His career is absolutely gone to shit after leaving us, well done to whoever who advised him there. Same went for Amaechi

Yeah I feel that’s where he should play too. Excellent player with a bit of everything in his locker

Poor Jack, only managed 18 games in 2 years at WHU. His career has been absolutely obliterated by injuries; he's still only 28!

I hope they go bust.

Not so much for not accepting our bid, that's well within their right, but for all the public shenanigans, deadlines and BS they put out in the process. They can get fucked.

Go back in Jan when they are on their knees.

Think we won't be the only ones in Jan if they badly need to sell. I think that ship has sailed now.
