It’s interesting if you hear him talk, they basically pressed with loads of players to kill out passing game out the back.
Obviously. I don't know why Arteta kept trying to play out from under such an effective press. Felt like watching Emerys team. Needed to mix it up more. There were other issues with it too. AMN getting pressured and having to play out with his left is tough on him and caused a few mistakes. I think Elneny and Xhaka together drop too deep for the kick out so we don't have options ahead. Which is why Willian dropped so deep so often but mostly we were passing around our own 3rd of the pitch too much.
I don’t think there’s an answer that works to be honest, in which case I’d rather we stick to what we are good at.
To be honest I think the main issue was that they were too nervous today. As soon as you hesitate you lose a passing chance. Even Luiz was slow, but the two midfielders in particular just couldn’t do anything with it, especially Xhaka. Once we got past the first 30 mins or so we should have been fine because they can’t sustain it. Tierney wasn’t the outlet we’ve become accustomed to either, seemed a little panicky today.
