Or we are sweating him. Just that having him run around chasing opposing fullbacks isn't the best use of the best striker in the league. It's the French Chamakh that has me stewing.

You're looking at it wrong.

The problem here isn't Aubameyang. It is Arteta. If we sold Aubameyang to an effective team and he scored 20-25 goals this season, fans would be livid. Why isn't Aubameyang being used in ways that take advantage of his elite skills?

mutiple things have gone wrong at once here. He's hit poor form and the teams creativity has cratered. Auba has already proven he can score 20+ goals with the shittest of supply lines. He'll turm it around one way or another, im pretty confident of that

Teams have already nullified our only way of attacking. No longer are we pulling off those ultra-rehearsed from-the-back routines ending with a switch of play to an unmarked Auba on the left.

I just think the summer was the perfect opportunity to blow it up and find the attacking balance we needed, at a time when the manager and team would’ve been under the least pressure - our expectations would’ve been Burnsy-like in that case, knowing that we aren’t likely qualifying for champions league. It would have taken a lot of conviction and courage, but that’s what had to be done. We didn’t, now we have one of the poorest attacking in the league and a predictable sequence which is easily neutralized. With an aging underperforming extremely highly paid striker. It’s like we don’t learn anything from the past.

we were always doing something different and have been forever. Arsenal has always been under pressure to stay in / make it back to the top 4 right now. and now every year out makes it more urgent. the idea of blowing it up, while sensible was not going to happen because of this pressure. and this past summer was going to be a tricky time to do it given the market dynamics.

Are we having this conversation (about Auba's performance/value) if Ozil is playing instead of Laca?
Are we having this issue if Auba plays central instead of wide left?
Or if Pepe is freed up on the right to draw players in and bring Auba central?

It seems there's so many solutions but Arteta is scared of every one. It's clear he's too risk averse, and if he can't get over that hump it'll hurt the team more so than any defensive solidity improves us.

Papa Wengs needs to give him a call.

Keep Pepe up high, cover for him with Ceballos and Bellerin (staying deeper). Let Willock drive the ball forward and find layoffs to Auba. Pepe has great delivery, so too Saka.....there would be plenty of goals in that team and we'd still have a dynamic midfield.

At least Auba have a lot a lot of goodwill to fall back on. But of course Arsenal fans are not blind, if he is shit for the entire season the knives will all be out.

I am confident in his character and mentality. Guy is a winner. As long as we play him central we will be good

On the idea of selling Aubameyang, this past summer would have been a tough time actually. I think the only viable destinations would’ve been PSG and Manchester.

Basically La Liga is out due to the league’s financial restrictions. Bayern has Lewandowski. And while Napoli and Juve bought strikers, the net price was very low due to financial engineering by both teams. So that would’ve left maybe PSG and the Manchester clubs. None of you would’ve accepted another sale up north, so we’d have a very limited market. I’m sure Aubameyang was aware of these limitations as well

It’s fine keeping him. On the Knutson age thing - it’s fine to keep Aubameyang. Where you look silly is having Lacazette and Willian. One of those men is the best striker in the league with a great body. The others are decaying.

Auba has certainly been in poor form this season but he's consistently proven his quality level over multiple seasons unlike many players in this team. It's also difficult to distinguish between his drop in form and a malfunctioning team which creates almost nothing and has him mainly sticking to the wing.

He needs to be playing centrally more regularly until I fall into the guy has lost it camp. It's stupidity playing him the way we are even more so if he's not in great form simplify it and put him in the centre.

He hasn't been great but he's easily been our best forward. Steps out there every week and he's a tier above Laca and Willian and Pepé. We use him in a way where we get the least out of the abilities he does have that are world class and he's still better than the rest with his crosses, cutbacks and passes that find runners in-behind. Top bloke. He has deserved better managers over the last two years.

The way the summer market panned out, we wouldn't have found a buyer for him at the price we wanted and he wouldn't have gotten the deal he wanted on the open market. If we didnt renew him like we did, he'd be on a 1 way ticket out the door on a free next summer

Auba hasn't lost it. At least, I don't think he has. He's not getting what he needs from his team mates, and in turn he's been in quite poor form himself. His movement isn't not sharp enough.

We need Arteta to find a way to get him firing again, and it might not involve just playing him until it clicks. I'd like to see him in a front 2. It would give him a strike partner and maybe take some pressure off, while also giving him a bit more freedom as he can't quite hack the role he's playing now (although he absolutely can and should probably go back to that once he's in better form).

Whilst I do not disagree with this it is also a good reason as to why KSE should have provided a war chest, even if to prevent the club from needing to commit to potentially more bad decisions and repeating the mistakes of the recent past that may hamstring us for another 3-5 seasons during post COVID financial restrictions. Even more frustrating is that FFP is off the table probably until match attendances are back to pre-COVID numbers.
