He's given us a lot of great moments over the past few years, and I think he'll be better suited elsewhere. It's a move that suits everyone and he's still got a bit left in the tank. It's a shame it ended this way for such a talent and personality.

It's behind a paywall but the headline and intro of a Times article claim we've paid him £7m to cancel the contract. Does anyone have the full story, from either The Times or elsewhere?

If true, that would be shockingly poor management. Sack worthy in most places.

All this to stroke Arteta's ego as a disciplinarian.

Me too very sad to see him go and not happy with the way he was treated.

For someone who has been employed by Arsenal for 4 years and been a reliable and consistent performer in that time and to be frozen out just like that over something seemingly minor does not sit well with me and is not the fair way I'd like to see our players treated.

The Henry slide against Tottenham was this season ffs! So it does all just leave a sour taste but I am happy for Auba that he has managed to go and can continue his career instead of being left out here.

The social media stuff is just standard pr for modern organisations designed to project a view. I'm not sure I would attribute it to our club being classy. Ultimately it's the less publicised actions that I add more weight to.

Its also frustrating he didn't get to represent us in the Champions league. Familiar story of under equipping our XI when our various great players throughout the years have been in ascendency.

I know its a bit whingy but I feel robbed of watching 3-4 really exciting players under the Emery, Arteta tenures. Missing out on seeing Saliba play for Arsenal will leave a very sour taste too.

when it appeared that we just tore up his contract and let him leave for free instead of paying his wages, i could understand that, because arteta had buried him here and he'd just be wasting away. but the fact that we actually paid him £7m to tear up his contract is a fucking travesty.

arteta is literally destroying this club. its unbelievable.

I've actually gone a bit numb to the whole thing. We're not talking about a player we're paying off to go play in a retirement league, he left for fucking Barcelona - a) a massive club and b) the only club run even worse than us - and not only didn't we get a fee, we actually had to pay one.

Paying 7M Pounds is pure stupidity. I am shocked, extremely shocked.

So we didn't even save some money. We payed to weaken ourselves? This is all on Arteta and Edu.

Sid Lowe at the Guardian told the Daily Cannon that this wasn't his understanding of what had gone down.

I mean, if it is, the only way I could understand it is if Auba had had an affair with Mrs Arteta- I simply don't understand how we can have gone from the FA Cup final to November 2020 so quickly.

Anyway, I think it's a crying shame how this has all ended, the guy scored some massive goals for us and - even if we'd only had the FA Cup to thank him for, that would have been enough for me. I saw his brilliant debut and, bookending his time with us, was also present at the Watford game where he missed a penalty and robbed Odegaard of a legitimate goal. I prefer to remember his brilliance - and the unforgettable goals against Spurs.

I don't know where the truth lies, but it's believable we paid him off.

I was in favour if getting rid if he wasn't in Arteta's plans, and letting him go on a free made sense in terms of saving on his wage. But in this scenario we are literally no better off than keeping him around until the summer and letting him go free then.

The Time's story doesn't really sound plausible to me, especially in light of what Romano said on deadline day, but who knows. I read something earlier that said we were paying something for the next 6 months and then it's all between Barca and Auba from the summer, which is a compromise I can believe.

Romano and Sid Lowe (who is extremely well informed with Barca stuffs) said it's not the case so yeah those are more trustable than the times

Auba took a paycut to join Barca as everyone reported. Arsenal pays a portion of his reduced salary and Barca also pays a portion till June.
