Auba's been at the club for 5 years and his immaturity has been known since his Dortmund days at least. Despite that the club gave him a new contract and the armband and everything else that went with it. The only thing that's really changed is that he's become a very average footballer in the past 12 months.

Also not sure whether the absence of leaks from the squad indicate anything - by and large we have a young team who are more likely to put their heads down given the cull and anyone senior's basically been gutted out or about to be. Except Xhaka of course.

I think the idea that it must be some extreme act rather then just being late based on that would be logical. But human beings and their interaction is not always logical so I would want to understand the grounds behind it. Not least because in the world we live in now if some thing had been done I can't believe it wouldn't have been leaked somehow to help a perception. I mean lots of the him being late leaked so it would be very surprising that there is no suggestion at the moment of this other factor.

So when players react to something it tells us that they're the bad apples, like Guendouzi, AMN, Saliba etc.

But if they don't, it means that whatever has happened must've been warranted. Win-win for Arteta.

I mean the simplest and most likely explanation in my eyes:

Auba was late - frustrated Arteta disciplines him and strips him of the captaincy.

Auba takes this poorly and requests to be allowed to leave.

Arteta accepts this and subsequently isolates him.

There's plenty of circumstantial evidence to support this too. Understandable reactions from both sides imo if I am right.

Ultimately the main issue really is that Auba was captain, and you were never going to be able to strip him of that without blowing it up. It's pretty much identical to the Xhaka situation, except Arteta came in and changed his mind.

I think we should also treat every incident as a case by case basis. The guy was on time for training, not late. He just flew back on a different day. And it was for a good reason, to visit his mum who is ill.

If we treat everything non negotiable and everyone as a robot with no humane touch, sure. But when this happens time and time again to so many footballers in the squad that our manager is pretty much culling one entire squad then of course questions are to be asked if this is sustainable.

That doesn't tell me that the reasonable thing to do is to never play him again for the time where he will remain in the club, but agree to disagree. You haven't seemed to think so earlier either.

Really pretty sad someone so important to us for the past couple of years is discarded like this. 6 month loan with one year extension option. Auba is taking a paycut to complete the move as we refuse to subsidize any.

Basically saving his wages but not getting any fees at all again as is the norm for 90% of our transfers these days.

Goodbye 🙁 Thanks for all the memories. Our club is in utter shambles its better for him to leave anyway. Laca + Nketiah (both leaving on a free in the summer) to lead our attack. Brilliant

Yeah, shame. He was incredible for a while. I can't believe it's happening like this. Two adults that can't reconcile ultimately to the detriment of the club. What would happen to Lukaku if he were here, not starting and publicly criticized Arteta?

What does it matter what the reason is? Unless he's been caught shooting up or abusing his girlfriend is there really a good reason to burn a club captain, 60m player, 350kpw asset beyond use? How many times does this have to happen for people to stop looking for excuses why the man in charge allows these situations to deteriorate to this point?

Which is why I have admiration for Tuchel to be able to reconcile with Lukaku and punished him in the meantime. Win win situation.

No other manager is that petty and fall out with everyone at the first opposition. Its incredible how this keep happening.

Never said for the rest of his time at the club, did I? But 3 weeks before the window he was expected (and ultimately will) leave I’d another matter. But if he was going to stay then he had to be reintegrated, which is why I said it now and not in the last few weeks.

I also said it’s understandable course if action, not necessarily the best.

Auba is on 99 goals too. Couldn't get his 100 for a club he loved because of a petty personnel.

EDIT: Just realised the 1y option is an obligation, not an option. Basically a free transfer away immediately but packaged as a loan for Barca's financials.

Weren’t you fiercely defensive of Emery when he refused to play Ozil, £60m player, 350k p/w asset?
