The problem here is psychological, he's in his head and given the chances he's passing up, more than capable of having an Indian summer even in this season.

The issue is that there's nothing happening to shake the situation up. Dropping him isn't the answer, it would be better for there to be some positive shifting of responsibility.

not the first time we've ballsed something like this up. I give them a slight pass in baloguns case as there was a high amount of squad churn last summer, but still, it seemed obvious given the smaller amount of games available this season

Another dumb idea from our leadership. I know many here think it was the right decision, and that’s okay - not everyone can or needs to have a longer term vision. But I expect our leadership team to. I expected them to have made this decision the same way they made the decision to bring in our new goalie. Look at us now. Flailing and desperate, and everyone knows it. Get fleeced on any deal we might want to do.

this keeps happening because arteta has too much say. they ask him about loaning X and he plays it out in his mind that if the players who can play striker get injured then we'll need balo, so no loan.

I won't blame him. Under a new manager who can motivate our player and can play front foot football, Auba will still be useful till the end of his contract rotating with our new striker.

Lewandowski is on 27 goals this season. Granted he's a better overall player obviously and plays for a roided team but Auba outscored him in his last full Dortmund season, and the Pole is a year older. Auba still has something left in him, won't be that way too much longer if Arteta is left to destroy everyone's confidence and morale

Yep it’s Arteta’s fault that Auba misses open goals.

Sometimes you have to stop the excuses and blame the actual player. Partey losing possession, hitting the ball in row z, passing to the opposition or playing like such a timid fool is not on Arteta. Auba missing 5 yard open goals or pen misses is not on Arteta either.

The players take the blame for being shit.

When Auba was scoring FA Cup Semi/Finals winners did you give Arteta credit for that?

I'm not sure how you don't understand this, this isn't an argument about 'blame' it's a matter of root cause for something happening. Auba was in red hot form when Arteta arrived, he won the Golden Boot in his first full season at the club, then almost got it again the season after and scored the four goals that won us the FA Cup some five months after Arteta took over

Also since Arteta took over the whole team has scored 20+ goals less than in the years before. Forget about Partey who's never been this bad in his whole career, Auba has scored 30+ goals in his last five seasons, now he's had a 15 goal season last year in Arteta's first and will probably add another one this year. If you can't see that's connected there's nothing left to say.

Fernando Torres went from World class striker to shit in little time. Countless other examples.

Auba is 32, he has been here 4 years. Do you think he would be scoring 30 goals every season for the rest of his career? He is on his way down even if he was being managed by Klopp.

Torres' knees were an absolute mess, Liverpool sold him knowing fully well he wouldn't keep up for much longer.

Of course Auba won't keep up forever, but he's not had a big injury and while he's not as fresh as he used to be he's plenty quick enough to get at the end of chances. His squandering of chances and low goal output is clearly down to his shot confidence and our relegation level chance creation rate

If there's anything easy it's blaming the players for not executing a joke plan of our fraudulent two-bit coach.

He's missed, what, three sitters and a couple of penalties in the last month or so? With absurdly limited service. Not the pattern of a guy who has lost it completely.

I'm sure it doesn't help being aware that if he doesn't convert the one pass behind the lines he receives in any given match, there likely won't be another.

Auba looks haggard, especially in his face. Maybe malaria, maybe personal issues, clearly things have taken their toll on him. He's fallen several levels.

A better manager would still get much more out of him, but I think his poor form is both a personal decline and a team quality problem.

I don't know about all that. He looks to be working harder than ever so I don't think his condition is an issue. Maybe all the extra work is causing him to miss, I recall Henry talking about that before but being a CF now is very different to that job 20 years ago.
