That's just confidence, has nothing to do with trying. The whole squad was suffering from it. As for 50:50s, when has Auba ever been that sort of player? Whenever he tries he ends up getting sent off.

Things not coming off is confidence, trying nothing could be linked with confidence. But if your want the 350 wages you can 't hide for 6 months it comes with a little responsibility.

I assumed he was injured first game of the season you could see he was shying out of contact, and avoiding take ons etc whichplayers can when theyre injured but I don't actually think he was. If it was condifence he'd still be hustling smaller players in duels defensivly not just avoiding it.

If you go back and watch the leeds game you'll see him knocking players over in 50:50's. He tussled we'll for the ball last season.

I just checked the stats to see if my eyes are wrong and hes set to make just under half the tackles he did last season just under half the intercepts.

Thing is football has very few Messi’s and Seedorfs, players who can do everything. When you have a superstar, he will have a spike, and will be average to mediocre at other things. When you recruit him, you need to set him up to succeed. Aubameyang is not very good at beating players in traffic on the wing. With poor ball progression, the deeper he fell and wasn’t able to play in the box like Mané. Now we have him in the right places.

I don’t think he ever stopped trying. He was just doing the wrong things. Go back and look for the number of runs he makes where our leaden footed mids just ignore him. And he has to roll back in.

That's because last season he was basically playing as a left wing back.

I don't want my golden boot winner making tackles and intercepts in the full back position, I said as much last season. I want him to be positioned high up the pitch ghosting on the shoulder of defenders so that when we do win the ball, he's up there ready to exploit the space on the counter.

Wages are irrelevant, he's getting paid that much because we desperately needed to keep a player of his quality, not because he needs to carry us when everyone else can't pass a ball.

I didn't say he put a lot of crosses in compared to last season, I said his position was completely different. How can you have watched us this season and not noticed that we never used to have any players in the box? Aubameyang was punted wide and Lacazette dropped deep into midfield because there was a huge hole where a normal team would have an attacking midfielder. And then you had a great big lump like Willian. It's a wonder we scored a single goal and completely unsurprising that we had the worst creative stats aside from Sheffield for a long spell.

You said he was told to stay wide and put crosses in. I'm saying hes putting less than half as many as the previous season when he was great. So if your correct and he was told to stay wide and put crossed in and hes ut 50% less crosses in under that instruction thats increadibly poor.

Then when you stay the attack created nothing when hes a part of it then conclude its not his fault. I'm not sure about that. I didn't need he stats it was clear as day i double checked them to be sure and to drop in those areas by over 50% is huge. Like theyre never going to reduce to zero even the shittest prem player will often get maybe 30%ish of what the best will. So your starting around that 30% as a baseline so when your drop over 50% in stats that's horrific.

You said he could still affect the game from a wide position and I said crosses is how he tried to make things happen because it's pretty much all he could do isolated out there. The frequency of crosses is a function of whether someone is attacking the box and we had no strikers for the most part. Why would you cross when there's no one but their defenders around to meet it?

You can portion the blame for our attacking displays however you want but it's an irrefutable fact that we created chances comparable to a relegation team for the first half of the season. Come on now, it's not because Auba was lazy. It's because we played the most conservative football that has been seen in north London since since the George Graham days. Every single creative stat was in the toilet.

You'd just do a cut back kind of a cross. Or thers someone coming in at the far post to aim for. Fair enough if you think he was sticking out wide getting the space to cross but their was never anybody in the middle. I really don't think thats what happened. Auba on the wing all season in space with nobody to cross to waving his arms for people to get in the box.

Auba just wasn't intrested I saw it clear as day from the first game of this season. I genuinly presumed he was injured. It was clear and consistent from the first game and it progressed like that for months. It's no coinsidence he started taking players on and fighting and the goals suddenly came.
William was and is terrible. and laca is what he is lacking in speed, technique and physique. Auba was just going through the motions. People generally didnt notice for 12 months after ozil stopped trying. Ozil bearly lifted a finger for 6 months and people were saying i was wrong. Maybe its more of a physio thing to notice when players are conserving themself.

Agree with Speedy, in that he looked hungrier than usual yesterday. Benfica played with a high line, so hopefully he's just as up for it when the tactical conditions don't suit his strengths as much.

Don’t know how much of it had to do with whatever family issues he was dealing with, but there has definitely been a notable difference in his sharpness and attitude in front of goal since he returned from the trip to see his mum. Hopefully the slump in form is firmly behind him and we can look forward to more of this sort of quality from him in the near future and through the duration of his contract.

Aye he's a completely different animal since the leeds game. He was half as good as laca before that and laca is robbie keane level. He's back to himself since.

He scored two the match before leaving to see his mother too, and had slowly been improving up until then.
