I have to give him credit for three games during his time here when I felt he was actually worth the hype;

1) Valencia away
2) city semi final
3) Chelsea final

Over than that in big games he’s been massively underwhelming despite scoring here and there.

Giving him a massive contract at the age of 31 was always going to be a gamble. There's a reason why Wenger implemented a one-year renewal policy with players over 30 as you need to diligently assess their hunger and physical ability on an annual basis. The concern is that both his and Ozil's deal were offered from a place of neediness, and not because they had many years remaining at their peak.

The problem Deardevil is when you give a £350k contract, you are typically doing so because you are serious about competing. I believe (per Arteta’s claims) the idea was we would build quickly to the top. And Aubameyang, one of the deadliest strikers in the league would help us get there.
An £13-18m a year spend works when you are sweating it. You look very stupid when your team is sitting in 15th and there is no path to Champions League in the foreseeable future. Then you look like you’re tossing money away. This is why Arteta’s non-performance right now is problematic.
We basically have 1 of 2 problems right now. Either a) Arteta is preventing us from sweating our very expensive asset (Aubameyang), which is terrible business. Or b) we were wrong to pair Arteta and the Aubameyang contract and should’ve built more modestly

He looks massively out of form but when the whole team is performing bad do we expect him to create something out of nothing? He is essentially a finisher and thats it, he has pace great movement but when asked to do more he does sometimes struggle. Which is why playing at CF doesn't always suit him.

This is why I never got the Henry comparisons, Henry could go 5 games without scoring but you'd know he'd be giving the other team hell. Auba is a goalscorer and not much else really.

I wouldn't have a huge issue with his recent performances, I can deal with the missed header or not making more of the half chances he was putting away a couple of months ago. All players suffer a crisis in confidence. But he's definitely lacking in aggression with his movement. Just watch him in the box when we have the ball wide, it's all very passive. When the ball bounces around in the area, and he's not the only one guilty of this, he's never challenging for the second ball.

I don't buy that it's down to his contract or his age, it's just a severe lack of confidence. But he needs to snap out of it.

It’s understandable to be fair. We don’t utilize him properly, and he’s obviously tired of constantly making runs which never get picked out with a quality through ball. How is he to know that this time, the 39th ball won’t be another aimless, inaccurate, hopeless cross into the box after he’s struggled all game against physical center backs and expended the rest of his energy pressing the ball high up with no one following in?

So yeah he goes through the motions.

I might be the only person who can't fully blame him for this. He's had like 2 touches of the ball in the last 5 games. He's not getting any help and screws up the 2 times he did. He'll come good if we can create proper chances

He had no service first few games. The ball came to him this weekend. But I think he’s over the whole situation. The guy spent a year running around like a left back so witless commentators could say he’s over the hill when he’s spending the majority of his playing minutes at the halfway line. And then he finally gets up top, and I think he’s just done mentally, which many of the team seem to be. Credit to Tierney, Lacazette and Gabriel for continuing to struggle through.

I'm disappointed more than anything. Since joining us, he's been one of those guys that rages against the dying of the might, always making runs despite the dearth of quality forward passes. This is the first time he's actually looked disinterested, and it stings because its in the wake of handing him a mega deal

I said at the time we should have sold him, But we continue to make the same mistakes. He's largley been disintrested in general play. Last year he took responsibility for creating aswell and was a complete joy to watch. This year hes been disintrrested from the start I've mentioned it a few times he was avoiding contact I presumed he had a knock but I'm not sure he does I think this is just him now. He's been protecting himself from the first game of the season.

I dont think Auba is protecting himself any more than he did before. He never was the type to relish physical battles, he left that to Lacazette even though he's the much smaller guy. He's just in piss poor form

I don’t think you collapse overnight. But it’s been insane to play him as a winger all year and abuse his enthusiasm. Especially early on when we were pressing. We’ve made him toil for nothing.
The key thing right now is we don’t see any weird cramps and niggles. But we need to use him better.
