I mostly agree but I have a lower opinion of basically everyone who's working for the Athetic these days and I do think they pretty much all follow the same "agenda" on Arsenal.

I don't read The Athletic, and I have to be honest, I don't really know (although the Athletic is discussed enough here to have a good idea) or much care what the "agenda" is.

I just judge him as I find him, and he's a thoroughly decent and honest guy that does a very good job of talking about Arsenal, which I appreciate. He also criticises Arsenal and Arteta plenty, and I haven't noticed any difference in the way he talks about the club since he stsrted working for The Athletic. And whilst AFTV has its place, for sure, I appreciate the lack of hysterics a lot when I tune into Arseblog.

The Athletic are no different to any other publication except for the fact that most of those who report on the club (Amy, James etc.) are lifelong fans. Amy and James being sympathetic to Arteta is not that unique a point of view among the wider fanbase and certainly not among media. It's not like a Neville situation where they're backing up their old mate. They also have to show a level of restraint when it comes to criticism to maintain access and links.

I like James too, quite a funny guy and generally has good observations. His main flaw is that he thinks he's above the emotional response of your average fan and can still think rationally, and while it might be true to a large extent I think he often just end up being contrarian by following the logic that 'fans are being emotional therefore the opposite must be true'. Arseblog is more representative of your average fan.

It’ll be easy for you guys to do it once we’ve upgraded the last couple of holes that need filling. I was a pioneer. I was defending him while we were struggling to string two passes together with Bellerin, Willian and Luiz.

What happens when we have a striker that can link play, last more than 60 minutes and doesn’t have two lead feet? What if he gets another 150m in the summer and spends it as well as he did in the last one, when we signed a bunch of players no one had bothered to watch and everyone decided we hadn’t improved the first 11.

I’ve said it before, but i’m going to say it again, a lot of you boys have said some truly embarrassing things about a guy that could possibly be around our club for a very long time. But instead of letting yourself enjoy it, and see the growth and change that is going on, most have decided to call the guy a fraud because he wants his captain to turn up on time. Some of these kids are breaking out, taking the next step, and you boys are too busy posting articles you haven’t even read during games to try and incite more aggression towards the guy to appreciate what’s going on.

4th at christmas with a team young enough to play at the Olympics, but we lose 10 mill on AMN by hanging onto him for 24 months too long and apparently he’s ruined the club. Please.

Except there's nobody making me choose between enjoying a win against Norwich and being annoyed at the horrible way the AMN situation has been taken care of. I can do both, and your whole argument is based on that one can't. I don't somehow miss Martinelli's development into a fine player just because I don't rate Arteta one bit. A pioneer 😆

Yeah? Do we even have a Saka thread? Does the Ben White one get bumped when we keep another clean sheet? I only know there’s a Ramsdale one because for the first couple of months it would only get some attention when some clown wanted to ask how many goals it’d take for him to go full Martinez.

Yes, and if we didn't and you thought it was because the people who want Arteta fired don't think Saka is a good player then that's on you.

all the new players have their own threads, which regularly get bumped when they have noteworthy performances. odegaard, tomiyasu, tavares and ramsdale threads have all had activity, and it has been mainly praise.

while we're on the subject of lack of positivity, I checked the mangod gabriel thread. not one post from you about arguably our best defender this season. why didn't you bother praising arguably our best defender this season? and no bump when we keep a clean sheet? some pioneer...

Call me traditional, but I find the best time to declare things are going well is when they're going well.

Which feeds back to the point about some pundits feeling like they're not pulling their weight unless their position contradicts the obvious.

😆 that would probably hurt if it didn't come from the child who disappears for weeks or months on end when results go pear shaped only to show back up when there's a good little run, not even to celebrate but to gloat at others, asking why others don't post in player threads etc. Embarrassing

I have to say I look at things differently. Anyone can ‘call it like they see it’. Why would you pay someone to take a view that someone with no real interest in the sport could come up with?

The inability to look past what’s on the surface and instead look for the most cliche’d take by pundits drives me mad and the vast majority are like this. Then when things go the other way ‘that’s football for you lol’. You’d often find that in hindsight, there were plenty of clues for supposedly unexpected outcomes.

Ronaldo and Varane signing for United are the perfect example. Hardly a single pundit questioned whether it was a good move, almost universally accepted that it was a great thing.

Who genuinely cares what pundits think? I can't remember any time I paid attention to something one of them said unless it was some next level outrageously dumb statement or more latently racist bullshit by Souness. You quote them to laugh at them, they serve literally no other purpose

Haven't watched a pre or post game discussion in years. Even the half time break I only watch for the goals if we're winning and that's it.

Think the only pundit I can stand these days is when Alex Scott is on.
