He's still having his 'Xhaka moments' in game that result in goal scoring opportunities for the opposition. That said he has upped his performance levels and is having his best calendar year (and season thus far), since he joined the club.

I know it's increasingly going to be viewed as a shit thing to say, but I continue to think that if he keeps up his improved form, it would be the mark of an ambitious, well run club, and better for Xhaka's own career, to sell him on for a fee in the summer and upgrade.

Yeah I agree. He's 30 and this could very just be a purple patch.

If he maintains this form I'd argue that the #6 position and strengthening the forward line should be a higher priority for the club in the summer.

We have both Partey and Xhaka getting on age-wise. Both are excellent. Lokonga still has a lot of learning to do. We need to bring in 2 excellent players before we can sell one of them. That would be it for me.

Hard to pick which one because Partey is clearly one of the best mids in the league. Even my Liverpool and City friends are saying he is a top 3 mid, but he has stamina and off-field concerns. Xhaka is clearly our on-field leader. So hard to pick who to shift. But definitely need 2 equivalent players before moving one. And fuck the Tielemans talk.

His form is really one of the surprise of the season. Fair play to him for turning it around so dramatically.

Saw reports that he apologised to the team at half time for his mistake that led to the goal so delighted for him to score it himself to redeem the mistake

If the Xhaka role is to get into the box as an attacking player (as it appears to be), then I'd look for a replacement who is a more regular/reliable goal scorer like a SM-S. Similarly when looking for a wide player I'd look at someone like David. ATM IMO our attack is good enough to create chaos in the final 3rd, but lacks the cutting edge in front of goal to reliably convert opportunities into goals when Jesus is not in the area to receive the ball.

Right now I would go with Thiago, Partey, Gundogan, Bruno and Rodri playing better than Xhaka. But he is in the mix. The man is stellar. Regularly one of our top 3-4 performers on a squad with Jesus, Saliba, Gabriel, Partey Martinelli, Saka, Odegaard, etc.
