Most people's line on Xhaka has been that they want to get rid of him, but he's too important to the way we're set up so we have to replace him properly first.
I don't think that's true anymore though. We've changed shape lately and we're not as dependent on him lying deep in the field as we were under Emery or last season's Arteta. Xhaka still does some things rather well, especially defensively, and he did them well today too, but he's far easier to swap for someone else right now and I don't think he would have started at all tonight if Elneny hadn't contracted covid during the international break.
