TBH I don't care if they are true or false after what he had done on the pitch, and what he did say off it at the Euros.

I've said previously IMO Xhaka is the poster boy for our ongoing demise under 3 managers and administrations since his signing. Now I'd go so far as to say for me he is now the poster boy for what is wrong with Arteta as manager & Edu as TD/GM etc. In a perfect storm scenario he is good at what he does, but we are not set up that way at this club. As for the reason regarding 'leadership'/experience, I do not consider his behaviour to be of a quality or level that we would want to retain, let alone in doing so to send the right message to the developing players.

Totally agree Anzac, his actions before this story have already given me the measure of his character and it's not good in my view.

I just don't think it's a coincidence that someone like xhaka is one of the experienced characters in the dressing room at time when Arsenal look directionless, lacking spirit and the team generally appearing mediocre with no real accountability.

This notion of him being a good character and a leader is absurd. He has disrespected the club so many times and continues to be rewarded.

Other players that disrespected us: Cesc, RvP, Koscielny etc did it on their way out. We could at least wash our hands of them. I genuinely can't watch us with this imbecile starting for us. And being given the captain's armband to start this season...this saga feels like the biggest middle finger this club has given the fans. Its a horrible feeling, much worse than losing football matches, it makes me wonder what the point of supporting this current version of the club is.

Well that didn't take long = 3rd game to get his 1st red card for the season = great leadership example from his experience.
The game may have already been lost, but the red card made sure there was no coming back.

I don't see the contract extension as a total disaster—I can't see the point—but it would be great if he could now put together a consistent season.

I take it back, re-signing Xhaka was a big setback. He contributes to the misery of losses far too often—I guess it would be overcooking it to say he just cost us points.

The frustrating thing is that this was perfectly well known and understood.

Agreed. Xhaka needed to be fired. Terminated. Given away for whatever anyone was willing to pay for him.

I generally don't hold ill will to any football people (except cheaters like Rooney), but those responsible for Xhaka's long fucking stay at Arsenal FC deserve our utmost ire.

He's a joke with much to make up. That aside, he's definitely dealing with a stigma (that he's been complicit in building through rashness), as is our club on the whole. I've been pondering if the English recruitment is part a subtle approach at mitigating that bias from referees.

Q, on that one must admit I haven't watched it. I'm not touching that game and erasing it from memory as much as possible. Only seen a frame. Was mostly referring to some of the scandalous cards handed out to him last season, littered among justified cards from buffoonery.

Totally sums him up. Absolutely no accountability like when he refused to even acknowledge that his behaviour had been at least equally as bad in that palace game. Refused to acknowledge fault that is not someone who can ever be a leader. Just shows him as arrogant and immature without the excuse of youth or inexperience.

What's ironic is that Xhaka has been sent off for things like that before. He should know where the level is by now.

I feel he got sent off because he's Xhaka. That tackle will often go unpunished and is very rarely a straight red.

It isn't. Some players will get away with it but that's the case with every decision. Doesn't make the call on Saturday wrong.
