Someone wants to take an ACL’d defender? Perfect.
We need to be more ruthless, less sentimental. The only sacred cow central defender we should have right now is Saliba. Everyone else should be deemed expendable if he can land us our own Top 4 caliber starter(s). We need to learn to let go of the various imperfect players we’ve journeyed with thus far. This isn’t a marriage.

It's not about sentimentality though. It's about that if we buy Gabriel we have him, Saliba, Luiz and Mari as sure things (as in won't be sold this summer), and that means we need to keep one of the rest. The best of the rest is Chambers. Nothing sentimental about it, and why would we need to learn to let go of Chambers specifically instead of Sokratis, Holding and Mustafi?

Chambers is a massive liability against any speedy winger or forward. We've had to shelter him from those and I can only imagine he'll come back from an ACL even slower.

They say he is tier 1 for Rennais news. Also the first guy to say Guendouzi to Arsenal when we signed him.

Wow. That's great news. If he's meeting the head of recruiting it means we've sanctioned it. So this guy is reliable?

Bizarre. So we gave Luiz a new deal just to sell? I have to say out of Holding, Sokratis, Mustafi and Luiz he’d be the last one I’d sell.

I don’t buy it.

It probably a rubbish rumour, but id' say Luiz wants guarentes of a first team place. He left chelsea to be a starter and he could do the same again. And wages wise with COVID we need to cut.

If true just means we are after a big CB signing

Yeah, I was livid after we triggered his extension, because that makes it harder to revamp our CB’s like we should be doing.

I doubt this is true, but if it is, then we are incredibly close to a starting type of CB.

Its also pretty clear Luiz is world class in a back 3, average and dodgy in a back 4. Think Arteta wants to build back a 433 team.

If we are not receiving a good price I will still keep Luiz mainly because of his leadership and motivational skills, plus the fact he can cover as a DM

If we renewed Luiz's contract so we could sell him, that's absolutely fucking brilliant. If they pull it off, color me impressed.

I don't think it was the intent at the time, but our financial position probably means we will listen to offers for just about any player.

If we sell him, it was definitely intentional.

I think the intent at the time was based around our being able to qualify for UEFA via league position.
At the re-start we were still an outside hope for challenging top4 until we lost to both MC & BHA. We were still in re UEL places until the losses to TH & Villa. IMO each of those has meant we do not have the dame finances available and we have had to adjust our strategy accordingly.

This is a no-brainer if we can get good money. We need to turn over our older players and get money. And invest in the Aouars and Upamecanos of this world.

Who’s going to negotiate with these guys agents / directors, who have been in the business of transfers for years? Vinai / Edu / Arteta have never negotiated a major transfer between them. We’d be lucky to get someone like Ryan Fraser.

30m is fine too. Just get him out of our club. We desperately need the funds for a good AM

If selling Lacazette and Guendouzi gets us an Aouar then I'm all for it.

If this doesn't fall under Edu's job description then what does? I'm sure we still have a legal team to handle the technicalities.

You just hire an intermediary - it's fairly standard practice. Liverpool, for instance, do it all the time.

Isn't hiring too many intermediaries what got us here in the first place?

I reckon it’s one of the reasons Raul is gone, I think Edu most likely wants a broader role.

No.

Yeah. If you know what you are doing in terms of the players you want, 3rd parties cannot take advantage of you. When you have no plan, then people can step in and shape your agenda for you.

More murmuring of rennes being interested in david luiz. That would be odd

selling him for 10-15 mil would be freaking hilarious.

Reliable local newspaper from Naples have claimed that if Napoli misses out on Gabriel they will be in for Sokratis.

😆

Just for that it is worth bringing in Gabriel

Papa is on big wages, would be nice if we can sell him this summer.

A lot of rumors in the Italian media that Juventus sporting director Paratici is in London to negotiate the purchase of Lacazette.

Not against the move if we can recoup a good transfer fee from this sale.

We are going to have a significantly lower cost base in 2020-21 than we did last season.
I wouldn't be surprised if Willian is Lacazette's replacement.
And then we will get rid of a bunch of defenders, midfielders and Ozi. The only 2 new transfer fees we will take on will be Gabriel and one of Partey / Aouar.

As long as Laca is replaced (no, not by Willian nor Eddie).

If the Frenchman is sold, we simply cant go into next season with one main striker

Other reports say the are after Bellerin and offering Rugani in exchange. I would give them a big Bajan spliff and tell them puff on that and try again.

Laca and Douzi for Dybala sounds like a fair deal.

Juve need to balance out their team in my opinion. Laca for Dybala will do that.

Skysports reporting that once Gabriel arrives with will have 9 CBs. (Mavropanos out on loan so 8)

Sokratis and Mustafi will not be renewed no matter if they have any takers or not this summer.

Chambers will be kept due to his versatility.

Arteta will need to choose one more to sell from Luiz/Mari/Holding.

That's easy. Holding
