We've talked about selling players we don't want to because the ones we do aren't going at acceptable rates. Martinez was the first lamb, and in hindsight Maitland-Niles should have been the other one. Wary about who we can legtimately offload now for decent rates and for what target.

The fees are sort of irrelevant at the level we're talking. I mean, they're relevant, but they're not necessarily the main factor. What we really get is a chance to reset our wage bill and weight it more towards the players who actually play for us.

Tbh we should be focussing on clearing the decks in these last few days, so we at least have a clean slate in the coming windows. At minimum Kola, sokratis, guendo all have to go permanently, and mustafi going would be nice too. Dunno what guendos and his agent are thinking, they shouldve been hunting for new clubs all summer

It's disappointing that some of the older players have so little ambition to move, but on a positive note this is the last summer we're going to have this problem. Özil and Mustafi will be gone next summer, and so will Kola and Sokratis if they don't move before then. Luiz too. There should be a huge chunk of our wage bill freeing up in 2021.

My concern is if we do manage to shift some players out without any incoming, that any residual revenue will be swallowed up by our operating cost debt from the COVID revenue shortfall.
By the same token if we do fail to shift anyone then there is the possibility we will be in a worse situation financially next summer even if they do leave as free agents, as our debt could be 3x the losses from last season.
On the other hand it could well be the perfect time for KSE to make a personal loan available so as to rebuild.

Next summer is massive for sure, but youd want to get as much dreck dumping done now as there's the outside chance you get some nominal fees if you shift them now.

Hate to be the one to do this, but Kola has a contract until 2022.

I think Kola is the only one close to leaving. It's still on

Can't say Sokratis don't want to leave, simply nobody interest is a shithouse defender like him. Same for Mustafi. Luiz is still one of our best defenders so not part of the equation.

Agreed, I feel like Luiz adds a lot on and off the field. He's a huge personality with a monstrous will to win. How many 50 50s has he lost in the since he got here. He wins nearly everything. If you have a 34 year old with a full cabinet kf medals turning up and killing himself in training everyday then its hard for someone who's done nothing in the game to sit there and do the minimum beside him. We heard DB10 talk about the other players will to win rubbing off on him. I think luiz has the same effect.

Agreed but the problem with him is that he is a liability and hugely error prone as we saw on Monday night and countless other times last season. Does his good outweigh his bad? Not sure. He was always a stop gap but this should be his last season with us.

Honestly hard to imagine how he is feeling in the dressing room. We have seen on the pitch he constantly have to calm our players down, ask them not to over celebrate small victories and aim for trophies. He has went from a team of serial winners to budding all these young players for success.

I think Luiz is a good option if he plays next to a cb who has the pace and mobility to cover for him. Someone like Gabriel (or Tierney in 3 cb line up).

Some talk in The Mirror that Guendouzi is off to Hertha on a season loan with no loan fee - must be to get his wages off the books.
Also mention in The Sun/Express that Everton may be 'interested' in Sokratis.

Along with Kola to Leverkusen and Torreira to Atletico it would still be a decent culling of the numbers, but perhaps also pointless in terms of the team if we cannot do anything to improve our capability on the pitch.

I'd say its less about wages and more about keeping him playing and protecting his future value. Clearly Arteta isn't going to play him so we have an obligation to try and get him football elsewhere too.
