It's not ignoring it at all, it's a calculated risk. You could wait a year, Martinez could lose the battle, then you have a No.2 on your hand with 1yr left on his contract next summer and struggle to get the £20m.

There's two points for me, Leno has been excellent for us over over 18 months, second only to Auba probably. So you know whatever happens he's not an issue. The other thing we know is that we could really use that £20m now, not potentially in 12 months.

If Emi is happen to stay and fight it out and we can get our business done regardless, then by all means keep him and get him to a sign a new deal. But calling it a 'massive mistake' seems like a weird conclusion to come to otherwise.

Both keeping him and selling him is a calculated risk. You could struggle to get the £20m, or Martinez wins the battle and you could sell him for £40m next summer. It's hard to say what the odds are for each outcome, which is why I don't think it's clear cut. Obviously we'd rather have £20m now than £20m later, but for deciding between £20m now or more later we'd need to know what "more" means, and if Martinez ends up being our first choice this season I think that would be a considerable amount.

If we end up selling Martinez, it would terrible judgment to go into the season without a second keeper especially given Leno's just recovering. That second keeper will cost a minimum of 10M I would guess for anyone halfway decent. For a net gain of 10M, I think it's worth taking the risk that Martinez's value will depreciate by next summer. Rather keep him and see what happens.

Emi is good on the ball, which seems to be important to what Arteta is trying to do. So it’s worth keeping him, unless an insane offer comes in (£30m+).

He's not Dules. Leno is 190cm - Emi is 193cm - just over an inch taller.

He's on around 90k so at least thats off the books. I was hoping for a gentlemanly 2-3m though

If we were offering 30m cash for aouar weeks ago, it would suggest we need to raise around 20m in sales if we want to sign him. Thats probably torreira, sokratis, kolasinac and another CB at least. Emi or hector are the 2 biggest 'maybe' sales we could make that would raise funds quickly

No it isn’t. This is why it’s so weird to hear some fans say “don’t worry about squad value issues!” This the result of Wenger, Gazidis and Raul not worrying about squad value, and filling the team with older players on big contracts. You can’t sell these guys to refresh the squad. We’ve made so much money evaporate on old players and misfits like Mkhitaryan and Perez.

The only way I see Kola leaving is on a Sokratis type of deal. For free or maybe 2-3 million. The teams that are linked with him cannot afford to pay him what he is making now and no way he signs for a smaller pay what will probably be that last big deal of his career. The only way he gets more money(or the same)is going for free. In fact, I can bet he will stay and run down his contract.

Torreira and Martinez(and we will use some of that money on a new keeper) are the only ones that will bring in some cash(20 million each, maybe). Lets hope it's enough for one of the big targets we have.

Torreira is linked with italian clubs only. I wouldnt expect much of a fee for him. Hector to PSG or emi to villa would be the ones that guarantee a chunk of up front cash

Sounds like bullshit. Torino have never spend nearly as much on a player, they just got Verdi for 20m and that obliterated their record fee already
