Covid-19 is actually showing us how broken the football agent model is. These guys are wholly dependent on large transfer fees, which are not available right now.
Teams have no money but they still want to be able to deal players. Players also want to move. Good agents would be able to structure multi-team swap deals. But I don't think they're incentived to do this.

If you’re a super agent and you know that every summer you have at least one deal that’s 50m transfer and 50m wages, you could be eating £5m pounds off that alone. You might need 6 or 7 loan deals to make up that money.

That is the problem

Clubs have empowered these agents by outbidding each with off the book payments, incentives besides their “official payment”

Agents would prefer to sit and wait on that big deal, which naturally lends itself to the usual suspects.

In Holding’s case, the loan can work for us. Hopefully next to Lascelles he can form a strong partnership and really boost his value.
