Well deserved win for Brighton too who always seem to play well but have had really bad luck with converting it into points.

IMO we are now in the mix outside top4 and should certainly be in the conversation for 5th place based on current form.
This is where our current momentum comes into play as we have effectively changed our narrow losses into wins as we have solidified our defence and decreased our errors = we are no longer a shambles at the back.

So far as top4 is concerned we would need to improve further and the recent draws would need to become wins if we are to be considered in that conversation.
The biggest potential impacts yet to be achieved are still in midfield and our transition through the middle phase, and then adding an extra body forward in the press from the front - particularly against teams playing with a DM when playing out from the back.

Really good game by Brighton, would've been a robbery if Tottenham got even a point today in my opinion.

Didn't know that, but my gut feeling agrees with it. They need to find a sharper forward and they'd be in for a top-half finish I reckon.

That’s not surprising. Watching them mess up promising position after promising position in this game was frustrating enough. Similar story to all of the games of theirs that i’ve caught.

Would love to send Reiss down there for the rest of the season.

The rumor is that one of the bottom 5 clubs wants him on loan would be very happy if it was Brighton.

They're wasteful for sure. I remember the United game where they hit the woodwork six or seven times in the second half, only to eventually lose all three points to a penalty that was given after the final whistle.

Yep, can't remember watching a game where they didn't give the opposition a good go and create a handful of decent opportunities.

We were actually lucky that we played them when we did, think they ended up resting a load of their players. That was the most reserved I think I've seen them play,

Basically Potter has them punching above their weight and it is more a question regarding resources and quality rather than managerial capability.
Would be interesting to see him at a bigger club with more/better resources. Think he'd do a better job at NUFC than Bruce currently.

Yeah, that was a tough one to watch. Pretty accurate representation of how their respective seasons were going to go. Brighton’s summed by up their wastefulness costing them a chance at three points. United’s by playing like absolute shit, hanging on, then getting bailed out by the refs.

Hopefully that was only a sign for how the first half their seasons would go.

Past two round of fixtures have been great for us. City and Liverpool who we aren't touching won and will hopefully start pulling away from the rest.

The pretenders all lost points and have shown their vulnerable. If we didn't have such a horrid start to the season we'd be right in the mix for third but as it stands I'd be happy with the 6th and a good run in Europa with it hopefully culminating in victory.

That was a fun game. But I’m not really interested in the top 4 chase. This feels familiar. Fans thinking we have a chance at top 4 despite there being numerous teams between us and the prize. This year there are even more. This is a time for consolidation. Build a team that is fundamentally stronger than any team not called City or liverpool. And then make a push next year

Because there are only two teams in front of us with any kind of consistency. It's not very probable that we'll get top 4, but I don't see why you wouldn't be interested. Is it some kind of defense mechanism to not get your hopes up?

The number of teams ahead of us would pose a problem if we were down to the last 8 games or so. As it is we could temporarily go 6th if we win our game on Tuesday, with 4 of the 5 teams currently above us playing each other.

It doesn't need to be overnight and we don't even have to win every game, we just need to keep gradually chipping away at the points and by March we'll be 5th or 6th before the gameweek begins.

It's unlikely, but I'd be disappointed if we didn't have a real go at it, regardless of how short we end up falling.

It’s not a defense mechanism. It’s just realism. Between us and top 4 are West Ham and Leicester who have taken 12 and 10 respectively in last 5 games. We’ve taken 11. We need to consistently outperform all 6 of these teams for the rest of the season. It’s not good enough to be on par with them. We’ve left it too late.

We are unlikely to make top 4. What’s more interesting to me is that this team has solid foundation. If we are lucky enough not to qualify for Europa, we can trim the squad and make a controlled top 4 challenge
