He wasn't outstanding at Dortmund. Just another good young player. Wasn't worried when they signed him.

But the way he is performing last year and this year even with all the injuries it looks like they will replace Hazard seamlessly. Lucky really

Always thought he looked super talented. A bit inconsistent at Dortmund, but showed close control and balance that proved he could be a top player.

Bruno is the most productive player in the league entering his prime. They’ll be getting his best years at 60-80% what we pay Aubameyang and he contributes at least as much offense.

If he plays like last season this wouldn't be a discussion while if he keeps playing like he has this season then yeah obviously we're paying him too much. Don't think there was anything wrong with the decision.

Personally I think Bruno has ways to go before he's at the level Aubameyang has performed at over the past two seasons. United will have to renegotiate that contract more than once if he keeps improving though.

We had Auba at the same age on a similar salary, ofc the last big contract is going to be a big one. You think a 28yr old Fernandes will renew for the same wage in 2-3 years when it comes to renew?

I also wouldn't be surprised if he demands a lot more than that now. His agent will have done a shit job if he accepts 200k from the club that gave Sanchez 450k, De Gea 350k, Pogba 300k and Martial 250k when he's well clear in terms of ability.

If United can avoid giving him a contract of that size when he’s Aubameyang’s age, that will be good contract management policy.
You typically want to keep your team in its mid 20s because that is when they’re at the most productive. Accordingly, that is also when you should pay them the most. Good contract management suggests that you should align your payouts with the period of high production, not after its past, ie predict, don’t reward good performance.

At any rate I think it's a bit pointless to count pennies. We probably had to pay Auba a little more than he would have gotten otherwise due to the extraordinary poor way we had handled everything behind the scenes, but a lot of his wages are tied up in add-ons and conditions that have to be met, and there's no doubt he deserved to be our top earner. Not a single player at the club was even close to his level.

Bruno joined United less than a year ago and they are already giving him a big wage bump. You can't compare the leverage in that deal to Auba going into his final year with us. Then there is the CL vs Europa side of things, meaning its a lot harder for us to get a replacement on Aubas level.
