Well yeah, nobody thought the 55 staff were all scouts. The question was who were the lowest paid staff let go, so I threw out some viable options. I personally have no idea who is in the 55 except the ones named so far.

They should have just framed it as a restructuring if that's what it is instead of blaming COVID. Probably would have come off a load better.

Makes you wonder in what manner the restructuring is being done. If it was going to be positive they'd have announced it as such. This looks like a long term cost cutting exercise and an acceptance that we are no longer playing with the big boys. This is mid table realism. This is Arsenal under Kroenke.

If you have to do layoffs, the responsible thing is to combine with restructuring. If you don’t, it’s a wasted opportunity. What you should always do when confronted with these issues is start on the revenue side and see what the problems are and then work from there. If you then need to do layoffs they should be based on the revenues. If you just do layoffs without thinking about how you can make more money, you might leave the people who remain worse off as well. It could just be really bad for everyone involved. If they’ve done this without looking at revenues then it’s problematic.

Except...how much does this save? Even over a 5 year period? Not much.

We could flog a few players from the academy and permanently be a couple of players short (hey, we've done it before) and we'd see the same financial impact. The monetary argument just doesn't make sense to me.

And some of those roles are "historic" so it's hard to imagine what the thinking is. Sacking the scout responsible for Scottish football? I'm willing to bet that role has existed since the 80s if not longer.

Also - if I remember correctly - Arsenal didn't take advantage of the gov furlough scheme. If it was about saving money, they'd have saved as much by doing that and the PR fallout would be less severe than redundancies.

In its place we've seen more and more of these agent transfers where we're having our pockets picked while signing players that either don't fit or aren't particularly good.

Like everything at the club it drifted ito disprepair, the coaching staff, youth development, the team, the medical department. Do you think we needed a reshuffle?

I don't understand your point here Speedy. The scouting needed improvement so we decided to eradicate it instead? That is some it-was-necessary-to-destroy-the-village-in-order-to-save-it logic. Whatever needed to be done it wasn't outsourcing our scouting to Kia Joorbchain and his mafia cartel.

We went and hired the best talent-spotter we could find in Europe, and within a year he was driven out by these philistines in a power grab that suddenly saw Sanllehi becoming the most important person at Arsenal.

Fans don't really know much, they're just following the bits of news dripped out, who knows Raul and co may just be trying to build a new scouting network, ripping out the old ones who weren't delivering.

Moving from a scouting based approach to player recruitment to an agent led approach isn't just business. It directly impacts who I'll see on the pitch. You wouldn't get this much uproar if Vinay's team was being restructured.

Its a £3m cut, so £15m over 5 years I suppose. The thing is its not just scouts so the idea that its just a restructuring of our scouting doesn't make much sense.

Maybe they've laid off a load of people and restructured the scouting at the same time to obscure whats going on?
