I've never really understood these type of references. It is like saying my house has gone up by £100k in the last year therefore I must be massively richer.
It is however fair to say in times like this more care and consideration should be taken by those who have the wealth to take the hit. On the flip side it is important the club is a self sustaining model and if we don't have work for some of these 55 people then a decision has to be made at some point. Important to know who these people are, because those on low salaries are the ones you worry about more. Some of the scouts will be on decent money and won't have too many problems finding other work.
It sounds like the scouting system is being completely overhauled so some of these lay-offs are for that. My worry is agents will dictate to us who we will sign and we go down that route, this won't end well if this is the path we go down. I'm a bit suspicious of the higher up powers and wonder if this is them just getting more control. On the other hand how many good players has this club discovered over the last 10 years? You could argue a massive shake up is well overdue and needed.
The way the club has announced is shocking, who the hell thought making your players sign up to a 12.5% pay cut (don't think any other PL club has done this) to protect jobs and then lay them off a few months later. Can't imagine the players are at all impressed, nor Arteta who got personally involved in getting the players on board. If you say these lay-offs are due to internal restructuring fair enough but don't blame the virus while on the other hand give out mega contracts and be looking to sign expensive players.
