Damn shame that Batman could have been improved with a shorter run time and tighter edit. Seems that should be easy enough to test an audience for, and then to amend the final cut.
Circling back here.
First, definitely enjoyed Batman and in particular the cinematography and storytelling. While the Nolan trilogy was excellent, it never really felt like it was based on/around a comic book. Reeves' Batman was visually stunning and aligned with the design of comics. Really impressed by that and learned about his cinematographer Greig Fraser.
But again - I'm amazed that you could botch an ending so badly by over-extending it. Would have been so easy to cut 5-10 minutes, if not longer, by simply testing an audience and evaluating their engagement. It seems they stuck by their script which needed one last twist rather than accepting that the movie would have been better by just focusing on building the world/characters.
Any reason why you wouldn't test and amend a film? perhaps they did?
Worth watching, but disappointing to see a film come so close to being great and fall quite short by their hubris.
