I thought the CGI creatures at the end were pretty good, Bandy—it was certainly a better climactic battle than almost any other MCU film, felt a bit more lively, meaningful and colourful to me.

The early fight sequences on the bus and on the building scaffolding are brilliant.

Agree with BW. Had read that the final battle was disappointing and was prepared for something Black Panther vs Killmonger-esque garbage but was pleasantly surprised. The bus fight was on a different level to the rest, but still.

This is pretty cool. Didn't make any difference at the time I guess so it only really pleased those who knew about it, but still.

Given all that was like two decades prior to Weinstein getting metoo'd, it's a profound illustration of just how long abusers get away with it in a lot of industries, and how often someone who's a complete prick to deal with at work is a complete prick all the way down, too.

Caught the film today. Thought the plot wasn't really tied together so well, I didn't actually realise I was at the climax until it was nearly over, though I guess it speaks to it's benefit the I didn't realise I was so far into quite a long movie. It was good overall though and agree that it's a good final instalment to this iteration.

Craig made an excellent Bond for me, I think the franchise needed a bit of seriousness to it.

Should I watch Spectre again if I don't remember anything at all from it? The Craig movies do seem to be somewhat attached.

No Time To Die is a direct sequel to Spectre, yes. I struggled through it because I neither cared for nor remembered anything from Spectre.

Cheers Klaus. Now that I think about it I'll probably just find a recap since that movie was so forgettable I have no intention of watching it again. I did like Casino Royale and Skyfall though and from what I've heard No Time to Die is closer to those two than to Spectre and QoS, so still looking forward to it.

Craig is an excellent Bond, but the franchise has become a little bloated in this latest phase. Still looking forward to seeing the finale.

The key to Ian Fleming (shitty writer and horrible person though he was in a lot of ways) is that the books are short, pulpy and don't have a great deal of context before or after. Recurring characters yes, but not tons of backstory or projection.

CASINO ROYALE is a great film because it investigates Bond's trauma—stirred, not shaken for a change—but it's a trick that only really works once in my opinion. Not that the others of the Craig era are bad by the run of these things, but they're not special.

I feel the same way about it Burnsy. I really liked Casino Royale too, it's the best Bond film since Dr. No probably. Craig's the best Bond by a long shot too. I was really hoping his movies would turn out better than they did, but I've come to realise that most of the Bond movies I like (such as Dr No, License To Kill, Casino Royale, perhaps Goldeneye to some degree) are one-offs that were either unburdened by the conventions on account of being the first movie in the series, or the result of various identity crises the franchise went through when it rebelled against said conventions. And while that is arguably true about certain parts of No Time To Die too I felt it was too little too late, and that the movie was just straight up badly written.

I did think the ending was excellent though, but it will mean nothing in the end. The next Bond actor is just going to reboot the franchise again and few of the important changes will carry over. Maybe we'll get another good film out of their first attempt though.

Spot on Klaus. Even aside from Bond, the whole "pulp takes itself seriously" schtick has been utterly belaboured in the past two decades by countless works, so it's all feeling a bit stale. Now a Bond inspired by FLEABAG with a few formal mannerisms and experiments would be interesting …

Seems almost certain that the next Bond wont be a white guy so that will hopefully give the writers a few new avenues to go down. I just hope its someone with charisma, I found Daniel Craig an absolute bore.

Expecting anything more than a few good action scenes from a bond movie is a bit like expecting current Arsenal to play attractive football. Bound to disappoint.

I think you should expect more than that. When you have a franchise like Mission Impossible that delivers much better action scenes then Bond has to deliver on something else to justify the hype.

I hadn't even seen Spectre and suffered a little for it (since when did Bond films full on sequels?). That being said I think they still made it so that folks like me wouldn't be completely lost.

Really enjoyed PIG. Hilarious and poignant setup and film, not what you'd expect, with a complex relationship to the now-fading Portland hipster culture of a decade ago, and all the American Thoreauvian nonsense that still plagues us.

I kind of love that Nicholas Cage takes pretty much every role he can get nowadays and most of it turns to shit, but some times you get a Mandy or a Pig. And even though most of the films aren't good I don't think I've seen him phoning it in.

He's a talent and he's actually a little bit like his character in PIG—committed to his work, gives zero fucks. Didn't struggle to get that character across. Damn he's looking old, though.

Given how good PIG is, it's kinda hilarious the other film he's got out this year is this:

He's also starring as a fictional version of himself in some loopy thing next year …
