How does that provide cover for both Kessie (if signed) and Partey being unavailable for 6 weeks re AFCON?

I'd think that if we got Lautaro we wouldn't be bringing in any more CAMs. We'd rely on ESR full time for that instead. The focus would shift to a CM only and we're done

I'm not suggesting he will play CAM but you can use him as a false 9 if ESR goes down. We have a light schedule and I could see Arteta being pragmatic about it all.

That said there isn't a snowball's chance that this is nothing more than grandstanding by Barca & Co as to why the ESL is still a valid option for them, and they are setting up La Liga as the fall guy for doing so.
