I think Barella is very possible. Inter are in desperate need of money and would probably rather sell him abroad than to Juve. Most other big teams I can think of already have enough midfielders. If there ever was a time to launch a big bid...

He’s the crown jewel there, so they’d probably rather shake Hakimi and Lukaku first. But if he was available, it would be a must. Incredibly talented at a great age. No regret move

inter have to sell around 80m worth of players, and hakimi covers the bulk of that. don't see any other major sales by inter

Yep. Italian players generally don't fancy moves abroad. Especially one already at a top club, Italian Champions, with an inspiring new manager playing in the UCL again. I deem it impossible for him to want to move to the 9th placed PL team playing some dull football

it's intriguing we don't hear loads of noise for Barella / Locatelli from other clubs though. There's always this apprehension with Italian players, but I thought we'd hear more from La Liga at least.

La Liga teams are broke. That’s why there is a unique opportunity to get one or two players who might’ve stayed in or moved around Europe

I'd love to bring in Mikel Merino if that's possible. 25-30M for him would be ideal and a huge upgrade in CM. Tall, strong, good on the ball, reasonably mobile and no AFCON. Left footed too.

He has Tchouameni as playing the DM/DLP role and Parteyt as the B2B currently, and rates Guimaraes as the better B2B option.

I like his preferences and IMO this is the sort of thing we should be getting from StatDNA so as to then identify and prioritise our transfer targets.

Look at Neves on pass completion. I can't imagine Arteta wanting that. Fans would be on his back in no time too.

Locatelli, Touchoaumeni and Caqueret are the ones to get. Especially Touchuameni with his age, size and adaptability of French players to PL easily.

How is it possible that central midfield has been a crash site for us for half a decade?! It’s an area that touches every other part of the field

Half a decade? I'd argue the midfield has been a mess since we got rid of Gilberto, Diarra and Flamini within a few months of each other. At best its been since 2011 when Fabregas left. Every other midfield has been patched together or with fairly mediocre players. I'd say since Fabregas left Arteta was probably our best out and out CM, Cazorla and Ramsey being more AMs.

The last time I saw Arsenal midfield dominate opponents regularly was Cazorla Coquelin partnership. Before that Arteta Ramsey was decent too. The rest pretty much big mess.

I definitely think Gilberto is the guy we've missed the most over the last decade. Vieira was unique of course, but even without Paddy we got to a Champions League final. You could redistribute what he brought to the team even if you had to do it across multiple players and positions.

We never replaced Gilberto though. Not with Flamini, not with Coquelin. They could run but they never had his excellent ability on the ball or his tactical intelligence. We haven't had a screening player since he left, never mind anyone that good.

I watch Casemiro nowadays and feel a slight envy because he's pretty similar. I think the Wenger back in 2006 would have pushed the boat out for him before he became a Real Madrid regular.
