Not having a dig, I haven't watched them much. Not overly convinced by the Buendia compilations I've seen but I hope you're right about him.

If we could get that and a quality right back and get Auba back on form maybe not the title but the squad would be as good as Uniteds at least.

Yeah I think we were good enough quality-wise to be top 4 challengers this season and feel it's mostly a management issue that we weren't, so with the right transfer business we should definitely be able to finish higher than that. I'd settle for CL qualification next season though considering where we are right now.

Worth remembering we only finished 8 points off 3rd. £80m worth talent should be able to take a big bite out of that deficit, bearing in mind points are generally a lot cheaper and easier to come by further down the table, and that's ignoring any internal and coaching improvement.

Like I said, points are cheaper and easier to come by further down the table. They're also harder to lose.

The points theory never really worked that way. I remember people keep arguing Emery had a superb season because he is just 1 point outside of top 4, ignoring the oblivious facts and deficiencies of his football.

Personnel helps, but if our coaching stays as bad as it is no amount of players will help you

Managers are + or - 10% at most at the top level. You can never do wrong by signing better players. They make you better.

people say this every season. yes everyone tries to improve, but when you price in the typical vagaries and vicissitudes of an epl season (who would have seen Liverpool barely scraping 4th?) the teams that end up vying for 4th are usually still heavily flawed and inconsistent. the margin for error is closing as more teams become competitive, but 4th isn't something I view as beyond our reach assuming we land our targets and arteta has learned not to put faith in the wrong people

I don't see anyone saying that. they're gilberto and cazorla level guys, which given our current standing, is the right level to move the needle

These are the type of signing Liverpool were making when they were lingering between 5th and 8th. I just hope we are being as clever as they were and strike gold as they did with Wijnaldum, Salah, Mane, Robertson etc.

Because make no mistake, if you go back in time through threads when the above signings were made, most people would have been laughing it off or concluding that those guys were not good enough for Arsenal. I am 100% sure of it.

yeah like anyone was predicting world class development arcs for guys like wijnaldum and Henderson. I can loudly and proudly say I didn't think any of those players were anything special apart from maybe salah, as did most of the football world tbf. klopp moulded that team into something well beyond anyones expectations, even liverpool supporters.

Buy good players who fit in a system and they'll look great. Henderson and Wijnaldum are decent but thoroughly average players.

Romano reiterating that Bissouma is not our 1st choice target and that we're looking for someone more technical in the mould of Ceballos, which despite the association with the latter is personally my preference as it's more conducive to Wengerball.

Have we been linked to any other central midfielders at all? If we're making moves for someone else we're defo keeping it quiet.

What has happened to all the ITKs this summer? There used to be someone who claimed Flamini was taking over the club, a mole, etc.? Just Romano these days?
