He will want to spend to keep the brand value up. Remember, he will still want to negotiate sponsorship deals. The value of those is contingent on having a strong brand. A strong brand is driven by good performances, which typically comes from quality players. So he will go out and buy the players. And he can do so with the comfort of a 20 year Super League contract to back the financing of these purchases.

I'm not sure how we're going to afford signings if we miss out on Europe on top of the past year of pandemic football, but I think our summer business should be focused on Bissouma, Gosens, and one of Ødegaard or Buendia.

If I assume that Bissouma is as good as you guys are saying then that'd be a great window. Hard to believe we would invest in competition/a starter over Tierney instead of a cheap backup like van Aanholt though.

It is, but it also depends on which shape the team will take. I think you could start both Tierney and Gosens in a 3-4-3 for instance, similar to what they're playing at Atalanta at the moment, and then you could have them compete for a spot in a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-2.

I agree it's not the biggest priority this summer, but Atalanta players tend to go cheap so he might not be very expensive, and I guess I'm just a little tired of the situation with our fullbacks. It would make sense to go for a rightback instead on paper, but we channel most of our attacks down the left side so that's where I would make sure we're well-covered first.

The Gosens idea is not a bad one. He is fantastic and going into his peak.
It would still leave us with a big question mark at right back where we have 100 imperfect players though. If we could get Gosens plus the right back, good

Also in terms of affording new signings I think we need to think of something more outside of the box for an AM signing, unless we can get Ode on the cheap or get another loan for him.

No I would definitely want to keep Maitland-Niles. I feel selling him would cause us such a headache. He's probably going to go somewhere and tear it up and make us regret it, and any money we get for him would have to be spent on a replacement anyway who's probably not going to be as good.

I think the big significant summer sales will end up being Laca and Bellerin, probably Eddie too if he doesn't sign a new deal, but there's been no such indication.

There are quite a lot of players that could be sold for around the £15m mark.. We mention this every summer - "just sell all these x players and we can raise x" never seems to happen that way.. having said that, if feels like most of the ones we want to shift this time around arnt complete shitsters like usual.

Torreira, Guendouzi, Hector, Lacazette, Nelson, Willock, Chambers, Eddie, AMN.

For me, all these guys are dispensable. Some i would rather keep (Willock) more than others, but when it comes down to it I would sell if it will directly fund the key areas we need (RB, LB (backup), CM and AM).

Even if we sold half of them, that should get around 80m which would go a long way into getting the funds needed for the summer.

And by extension Willock, AMN etc. I guess unless it only goes for players coming here.

I wouldn't mind Ode on loan because he is genuine quality but no more mid level shit like Ceballos. We'd have been far better off putting his minutes into young mids we have out on loan like Ainsley, Willock and Douzi.

I'm just saying it's not fair to say that players on loan don't try their best. I don't think any Newcastle or WBA fans accuse our players of that, and we're not accusing Ødegaard and Ryan of that. If the conclusion is that loan players don’t do their best then we should see a pattern on loanees, both in and out.

Actually our loanees are more committed than some of our own players. It's quite clear from their passion on pitch.

Whether they are good enough or not for us is another debate

Its not really about effort for me. Its about using your resources, including game time and squad position, to its fullest. The Matt Ryan loan makes sense because we were stuck and needed a keeper in January, thats when a loan signing makes sense IMO. I'm not even that comfortable with Odegaards loan but I'd take him for another season as he's very good and a bit on the expensive side for where I'd place our priorities this summer.

For me the obvious benefit on loaning him is that if you ask yourself what the chances are of signing him permanently then whatever answer you give is probably much higher than if you asked yourself that question with out loaning him. Thst in addition to that he strengthens us while he's here.

Seriously, if he's leaving you don't think him having been here this season affects his decision on where to go at all?

I think Real Madrid will sell him to who has the most money and if big CL clubs come in he'd be more likely to sign for them than us.
