He's been a defensive mid most of his career but I think Simeone has moved him up the field this season because Saul and Koke don't cut it ahead of him any more. I'd say he's an old-school midfielder who can play any role (defensive, B2B, attacking mid) at a reasonably high level. He's not a star like Partey who's tailormade for that lone pivot role but will be a 7/10 across the MF on any given day. He's a good mix of physical and ability on the ball and will be great backup for Partey (or even for Xhaka whenever required) - will fit our requirement of signing versatile players who can play multiple positions (especially as backup).
