You said Miguel Azeez’s performance against Sheffield Wednesday was his best in League One. How did this one compare?

I thought Miguel did well. He’s learning all the time and improving all of the time and this will be a really important week in his development.

How do you think he is developing off the ball? Do you think he did well in that department?

He did, he did. He is very honest, he is a fantastic athlete, moves gracefully.

We’re working really hard on him to try to pin and pick up second balls and get up to the ball and collapsing and winning the ball off of opposing centre forwards and off their feet and all these little bits, these ugly bits that he hasn’t been exposed to that much and he’s improving all of the time.

Good to see, I do think Cowley is a good guy for him to play under for his first loan out in the real world. Hopefully next season we can loan him out to a good Championship side.

Apparently Norbert Elgert, Schalke's U19 coach of the last 25 years and possibly the best youth coach in the world, was approached by us some time between 2016 und 2019 to head our academy, he rejected us to stay at his hometown club. Not sure what this would've meant for Mertesacker but it's a good sign we're looking at some really good coaches, not good though that whoever approached him is probably not at the club any more.

I actually know his name through FM. His stats are incredible 😆

Yeah he really is that good. Neuer Özil Sane Draxler Höwedes Kolasinac Matip Kehrer McKennie off the top of my head, most of them list him as their number one influence in their career and are still in touch with him.

Looks like we are finally dipping into the North American talent pool and have three American/Canadian youngsters training with the reserves.

Interestingly they have already made their debuts in MLS and can potentially sign professional contracts with us once they turn 18.

This news comes on the back of the hiring of ex-Bayern scout Florian Buchel who was supposedly their expert on North America (alongside Germany).

Game has changed too drastically in terms of the roles and instincts and abilities required of a keeper from the times when Seaman was playing till now.

More “Arsenalization” is how I see it. Not that that’s a terrible thing.

You can't tell me that those kids won't learn stuff from Seaman. Sure he wasn't known for his distribution or his sweeping but in terms of teaching them the core attributes of goalkeeping, I can't think of anyone better.

a lot of great players make poor coaches/teachers. they don't understand why you can't do something so simple.

To be fair I can't imagine the standards for youth goalkeeping coaches are particularly high, so learning from one of the best in the trade - albeit decades ago - can't be a bad thing. And I have to say, when it comes to the basics of goalkeeping, some of the supposedly highly rated ones have some shocking technique.

Precisely my point. There's such an obsession with GKs being good on the ball that people seem to forget the fundamentals of the craft. This is something Seaman was very good at and will be able to impart.

If he's already worked at the club on a voluntary basis and has been endorsed for a full-time position, I'd suggest that's a reflection on his capacity to coach these things.
