That's not a reasonable expectation. You have the chance to sign possibly the best defensive prospect out there, you do it now or you possibly lose your chance. If you're still able to do the rest of your business that summer then it's a no brainer for me. You can't keep that money in the bank because a year down the line you might need that money.
It is reasonable. We needed the money last summer, we need it now, we'll need it next summer. We need it /every/ year. If we're being honest, the 'rest of [our] business' is replacing almost our entire squad. It is bigger than 1 summer's work and requires us to be extremely astute with our use of resources. We need to be continually improving the squad to get back up the table and into the CL spots.
We're not wealthy enough to blow the guts of 30 million on players who won't kick a ball for the club for two years. Maybe if we got ourselves into a position like Liverpool through years of astute buying and selling, but we're miles off that. We have so many problems in the squad that need addressing and we don't have the funds. Once we get back into the CL and get closer to the top of the league, it starts to make more sense as finding very top tier players who can improve us becomes more difficult. However when you're dicking around in midtable with guys like Kolasinac and Elneny, improving the squad isn't hard, but it does require you to buy players who are ready to play.
