With city, it is the type of player rather than money. In theory Koulibaly fits a need.
Would Lyon’s Dembele, Cornet, Depay etc been able to run at Koulibaly and panic him? City needs more physicality and pace. Too often, when a pacy opponent counters, they simply are all over the place. Look vs spurs last year? How often did Son and Moura panic City? Look at City vs Liverpool at Anfield since Pep has been there, a joke when they should be so good at retaining the ball and taking the sting out of the game.
Guardiola needs another physical defender alongside Koulibaly, but the fact they have bought Ake, means that is the shopping done at the back. Ake is not overly physical, and on the small side, but has decent pace so it will be interesting to see.
There next signing should be a midfielder in the mould of Partey, or maybe slightly more defensive. I would buy Ndidi if I was Pep, that is exactly what they need, a dogged determination to win the ball back.
That's a good point that you make about City's lack of athleticism. KK has made errors in the UCL though, so it'll be interesting to see City next year if this transfer goes though. I think they'd be more dominant in the league.
I just think Pep gets too cute with his lineups. There's no reason to play 3 ATB for the first time vs. Lyon and I think he showed too much respect to that Lyon front three. He left the likes of Bernardo, Foden, and Mahrez on the bench too long.
Spot on with the line up
Against defensive counter attacking team like Lyon, a team like City changes their formation to a back three and Pep put De Bruyne as a winger? 😆
Against Liverpool etc, De Bruyne as cutting in might free him up to cause more damage, but not against bloody Lyon.
Foden should have left really, but that run he got in the team post the COVID restart has done the trick to keep him.
