So Atletico want Torreira, we want to sell Torreira, but they need to see before they buy. We want Partey, but have to sell before we buy. If only there was some sort of solution here.

It's nonsensical on the face of it but I'm sure this is the start of good news.

It could also be that a Atletico are briefing people that Partey must in no way be linked to any other transfers to protect the integrity of his release clause. If they are briefing the journalists, this is the right approach

So let me get this straight. Atletico wants Torreira, but have to sell before they can buy him, and we want Partey, but we have to sell Torreira before we can buy him. Clasic grandfather paradox 😆 .

The Partey situation: what’s tough about this is I keep hearing that transfer fees are being discounted by 25-30% this summer due to Coronavirus. So Atletico would want to get Torreira at this prevailing discount. But, they aren’t willing to budge on the Partey release clause and they want it all up front. So we would be taking a double hit versus their starting negotiating position.
What’s interesting is we haven’t really created rumours about a viable alternative. Why aren’t we in for a Roca or other midfielder to create urgency?
