We have too many good young players on their way up to plunge into midtable mediocrity I think. Guys like Sokratis, Luiz and Laca are a bit shit but odds are that most of them will lose their places to younger competition next season anyway. Some of them already have.

The real question to me is whether we'll keep guys like Auba and let the youngsters develop under their guidance, or of we're going to keep repeating the biggest mistakes we made during the last two decades. I think the players we let leave will dictate our future much more than the players we sign in that sense. Losing Auba and Saka this summer would be worse than signing ten of David Luiz.

It's the players that leave for f-all that screw us. How desperate were we when kos left we'd to spend 20m on a like for like replacement. And the ramsey shaped hole in our midfield has burned us badly. Imagine wed sold him for 30m and brought in a Juninho or Fernandes we'd be in such better shape now.

The more I think about it, I would sell Aubameyang. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but if I was the General Manager, I would call Edu and Arteta in and say build me a team that would win trophies from 2021 to 2025. And I would want to maximize the possibility of winning during that period, meaning as many players as possible should be in their peak. So I would commence the process of dumping everyone who is not going to be at or before their peak during that period. The point should be to have squad that has maximum asset value in 3 years. If we keep guys like Aubameyang, all that will happen is we will just continue the Ramsey cycle of asset value disappearing when we need it most. So dump all these guys and go on a shopping spree for a team Arteta and Edu can get behind.

I think Auba has to be sold myself. It's time, sadly. He's been a good servant during barren years but I believe he wants out so we should cash in.

This idea of him mentoring younger players only works if his heart is with Arsenal.

If we sell auba we'll reinvest in some mediocrity like dembele or one of kias cronies, and pray arteta is who people think he is and gets lemonade from lemons. We should sell auba and laca, and get 1 or 2 elite up and comers that fit a wholistic vision

So keep him til next year when you might get a good price?
It follows that if you won’t get a good price for Aubameyang, then others should not get good prices for their own players. So sell him and buy the replacements

Exactly. Players who aren't signing contract have to go. Guys like Auba it makes perfect sense, he's a quality player but thats exactly why he's worth something. We can get value on him and reinvest. Allowing him to leave for nothing would be throwing money away.

It would be much worse if we can't get Saka to sign IMO, he's a future start and we need to hang on to him. If we have to see him at some point we'd be better off doing it in 2 or 3 years time when his value will be through the roof.

Sell both, reinvest in 1. We aren't a club that can afford to have 2 £50m strikers. Eddie is already as good as Laca anyway, he can be 2nd choice.

So we don’t appear in the top 10 valuation list. But I always look at these lists and wonder to what extent they are actually correct. I suspect they could be challenged from 2 perspectives

1) to what extent are these variables just correlated with being on a good team. Aubameyang’s individual value will suffer because he has such poor service on Arsenal and, therefore, shoots relatively few shots. What if he had great service. Similarly Pépé’s value is low because behind him Bellerin has been inanimate. All this adds up to subtract value. Both players would be worth much more starting on Pool or City.
2) These valuations don’t account for trajectory. We have lots of decent kids. More than Spurs. How do you factor that?

I wouldn’t trust Kia to hold my gum, but I trust him more than the Athletic at this point. It’s amazing to see what’s happened to Amy Lawrence and Ornstein over there.
