Easily one of the best tennis matches ever if not the best, in terms of drama maybe the 2012 AO between Djokovic and Nadal comes close but 08 had higher quality tennis.
But if we're talking individual performances both have played better. I'd argue the best single tennis performance ever by anyone is Djokovic vs Ferrer in the AO 2013 semi. That's basically the tennis equivalent of Barcelona Madrid 5-0 in 2010, Ferrer was ranked 4th I think ahead of Murray or Nadal at the time and Djokovic annihilated him in straights within 80 or so minutes. I don't think anyone, not Fed in 06 or Nadal in 2010 even makes it to the fifth set vs that version of Djokovic, not just peak but apex tennis.
I personally feel the 2012 AO final was better quality. Just my opinion.
I also think that Djokovic's 2019 AO final thrashing of Nadal (who might have been struggling physically) was probably the single greatest performance ever too.
I also have very fond memories of Sampras Agassi at the US 2001 QF. Straight sets win for Pete but took 3 tie breaks and the crowd was amazing for they thought it could be the last ever meeting between the two. Great drama and fantastic tennis.
There's not much between them for sure. 2012 AO had a lot of breaks and if I recall correctly more unforced errors, haven't watched either in ages though.
2019 AO final was virtually perfect tennis, definitely one of Noles and the sports best performances but Nadal clearly wasn't at his best. For his game vs Ferrer it looked like it literally didn't matter who was on the other end of the court he would have torn everyone apart, think he himself said it was his best match ever although that was a while ago.
Among older tennis matches one of my favourites was El Aynaoui in AO 01, first won vs Hewitt who was ranked 1st and then got to the brink vs Roddick in the then longest ever Slam tennis match, fifth set ended 21-19.
