Which sporting performances have impressed you most. From any sporting discipline, whether its football, cricket, rugby, cycling, running, Basque pelota etc. Has to be a single event, not an entire series, where a player just dug in and pulled something extra. I'll throw out a few that have stood out over the years
Jordan's food poisoning game. After some dodgy lasagna, he didn't shit the bed like Spurs. He went out and put the Utah Jazz to the sword in game 5 of the 97 finals. He looked visibly sick that day but still filled out the stat sheet
One of my earliest racing memories is of Aryton Senna at Interlagos in 91. It's a pity we never got to see Senna vs Schumacher. Senna desperately wanted to win his home Grand Prix. He should've retired his car when it got stuck in 6th gear with 7 laps to go, but somehow he managed to get it over.
Ronaldinho at the Bernabeu. This is probably my favourite sporting memory. I've always felt that of the great football players, Ronaldinho is the one who held back the most, or at least didn't maintain his peak long enough. But in 2005 at the Bernabeu, he toyed with Real Madrid as though they were a Segunda team. He danced past the entire Madrid defense for two goals. By the end, Madrid fans partially in awe of him and partially frustrated by their board gave him an incredibly rare standing ovation. None of Rivaldo, Romario, Messi, or Ronaldo have earned this honour as far as I can remember.
