Yeah, I don't remember us being shit in 2010/11 - we just could not defend. I think until 2015 most of us accepted that we were two top players away from the title.

I think in comparison to 09/10, we are worse off in 10/11. 09/10 we were legit in for a title shout till after March we gave up and dropped like 10+ points to some absurd opponents.

10/11 we played good football but you can easily find clips like this from 06-11.

Also the combinations and goals in the 10/11 are leagues better. The 18/19 video was mostly quick one-twos or simple give and go 😆

The Leicester and Fulham goals are fantastic, but they're also the only ones that really stand out.

Don't think there is much between our 09/10 and 10/11 sides, the one main difference being Fabregas performances. I would argue not 07/08 but 09/10 was his best season, with an incredibly productive 15 goals/15 assists in 27 appearances in the league. That we could not invest the bare minimum to help him drag us to a league title that year is an outrage. 10/11 I think he was still a top 10 player in the league but his head was turned at that point.

I've always thought there are worlds, and not that far out ones, where we win those titles back to back and Wenger becomes a hero again.

I really hate it when editors cut up a goal that's incredibly beautiful like the Ramsey back heel. Show that sweeping move from a single angle in its entirety. You can repeat the end from a different angle if you wish. I just find it disorienting and unsatisfying.

I think the 07/08 side were slightly overrated personally. They could have been something special, but the same goes for a number of teams we've had throughout the years. Definitely think the 13/14 team was better, and was similarly done in by untimely injuries during the second half of the season.

At the end of the day Wenger never had the resources to buid enough squad depth. Mistakes were made in addition to that of course but I don't think they were made at bigger rates than at Chelsea and United. It was really frustrating to see him slowly lose his edge as all these near successes ultimately resulted in failure though.

Best player for us that season along with Cesc, bloke could have done and been anything he wanted and he chose to be a meme.

I really liked what Chamakh gave us in that first half season. Work rate, strength and nice link up.

I remember Djourou played a blinder around Dec-Jan that season, too. Think he got injured then we fell apart. One of the worst ends to a season you'll ever see.

The 13-14 season was blighted for me by the 5-1 to Liverpool to 6-0 to Chelsea. We hadn't gotten spanked like that since the 8-2 at OT, which was a one-off in those days.

Yeah, the difference of the 13/14 side is that are a flat track bully and a very flawed team that depended on a sick run of form from Ramsey and of course the impact of a new mega signing of Ozil. It lasted as far as it could go. We had totally no pace in that team.

Every big game we played away after Nov we got thumped like dog that season. We failed to compete

2010/2011 was all aesthetics and too little substance in my opinion. While the footy was pretty, it was marred by having to watch:
Denilson (30+ appearances)
Chamakh struggle to score
Birmingham final loss
12 points from last 10 games

2013/2014 at least ended with an FA Cup, Ramsey being on fire, and Ozil. I suppose it was a frustrating season due to the title collapse (Feb/Mar) and big defeats.

Exactly. That cup finally broke our trophyless run too, and it was the FA Cup that made us go ahead of United as the team that have won it the most times in history.

I recall us getting tonked by United in the cup in 07/08, and then there's the humiliating way we just laid down and died post Birmingham, crashing out of Champions League once again against an inferior side, Rosicky struggling to find his feet and then getting injured, Hleb going back to being bobbins once we stuck him wide again (and then the ice cream incident and subsequent forced move), Eboue playing most of the season on the wing, Eduardo breaking his leg, etc. Not many happy lasting memories from that season in retrospect. Just a bunch of traitors like Cesc, Flamini and Ade having good individual runs. Maybe it would have meant more if the dominant players hadn't turned out to be such absolute pieces of shit. The way things are I don't feel the slightest affection for a single one of them except Eduardo.

Denilson wasn't all bad that season. Chamakh's dry spell started when he was getting dropped for RVP already. The other two points are valid. In comparison in 2013/14
we conceded six against City and Chelsea
five to Liverpool
got smashed 3-0 by Everton with fucking Martinez at the helm
lost to United under Moyes with RVP scoring the only goal etc.

Sure the FA Cup made up for all that but the point wasn't as much about it being a better season trophy wise but how good the respective teams were. Before the Djourou and Nasri injuries and Chamakh's off pitch trouble started we were a lot better for me.

I don't remember liking our football for a long, long time, long before the dip of the last 3-4 seasons. Some of those teams played decent footy on their day or combined brilliantly to score a goal but most of the time it was painful to watch. I actually agree with Klaus that the 07/08 side is overrated, but it was probably the last time we really played like a team. Since then it's just been a collection of individuals, the better of which have been stitching together some neat moves and getting us wins. And like I said, it's only gotten worse more recently.

I think the quality of football has dropped throughout the league though. Even Liverpool are dreadful to watch. The focus has shifted to hard work and discipline, it's why SU and Wolves are doing so well. The whole thing is geared towards suppressing creativity and the lack of any great creative players in the league means it's working a treat. It says a lot that it's the likes of Grealish and Maddison that stand out.

I agree with the quality observation, Goon. The last truly great teams were possibly Ancelotti's Chelsea and the Rooney-Tevez-Ronaldo United. Since then we've been steamrolled by Pep's money boys. They've been really good, but to a large extent they've benefitted from a massive disparity in wealth more than anything. And I have a lot of respect for Liverpool but I tend to think of them as the perfect example of a team that has mastered achieving consistency over achieving true heights of brilliance. I can't sit here and recall a night when they just blew me away, the way I can with many of the other recent great teams like Bayern, Real, Barca, etc.

Nasri had tremendous gifts but his interplay with Sagna used to stifle us consistently I reckon. We'd hold possession beautifully but it didn't often add up to much. Not that I'm saying I'd turn down the Nasri of that era at Arsenal today.

Bar ₅ games I found Nasri massively over rated.

No outstanding qualities, and I don't think he made any of his team mates better.

Agree with that. Other than finishing off the team move in a win against United and the final pass to Arshavin against Barcelona, I'm struggling to remember much else of note.

Two goals vs Fulham, and Porto wonder goal.

But aside from a handful of great goals I don't think he did much. Can't remember any great assists or dominant games.
