What a fucking dreadful performance, god that was painful to watch. I'm still behind Arteta but these performances in recent weeks are a bit worrying. The squad does need a major overhaul but fuck this is painful to watch

Auba and saka have built up a nice understanding down the left flank. Hector/AMN and pepe need to pull their fingers out and get something going down the right flank. This is why I'm annoyed with sokratis starting. I feel like i haven't seen someone making runs outside pepe for ages, and he absolutely needs decoy runs to be effective

Exactly, Ceballos was easily our best player today although after this game that really doesn't say much. He should be replacing Xhaka though not Torreira, also his decent link up with Özil is wasted on the latter.

Performances like yesterday are par for the course for Leno so it's easy to forget about him, but yeah I think he was our best player as well.

Would have him for Nelson in that suggested line up vs city.
I want to see Auba - Laca - Marti as first choice always. Then sub on according to form on the day.

Agree with Gazza on need for RB to help Pepe be effective.
Team dry of ideas in attack, and we’re not using what we already have.

Yep. It was genuinely frustrating to see some fans lauding Xhaka for going several weeks without a significant fuck up, and concluding that he could be a viable option long-term.

His passing yesterday was atrocious, he played like he was hungover, not for the first time.

None of our mids are a viable option. Maybe the likes of Douzi and Willock will be eventually but thats yet to be seen. Xhaka, Torreira, Ozil, Ceballos are all a bit below what we need. Maybe Ceballos can grow into it.

We need to rebuild the midfield this summer.

The description of Xhaka is not an outlier, that is Xhaka. His decision making and passing has always been poor he's just not a very good footballer. He's always been able to have an occasional good match when the circumstances go his way but never consistently.

These types of players are the reasons we are so far a way from being able to compete at the top level and we need to get rid of them.

Defensively he really is tenacious despite his slender size. A lot of endeavour to win the ball or press his marker.

Was clear from Arteta's press conference that he considers two players per positions:

LF: Auba/Marti
CF: Laca/Eddie.
RW: Pepe/Nelson

So as long as he insists on playing Auba left, we will not see Marti. For City, I'll assume he'll go with Laca and between Pepe/Nelson it's 50-50

Martinelli can't have come to a shock to anyone though surely, seeing as both himself and every manager he's had here classifies him as a left winger.
