The thing about Eddie is he's a tradesman as a footballer. Works hard and does some things extremely well. There are players who look more elite, but then routinely fluff their lines when faced with the type of chance he put away against Fulham.

Way he's playing this season it makes a lot of sense to have kept him around and not Balogun.

He's seemingly pushed on by a sense of belonging at Arsenal, another special thing to have around. And again in sharp contrast to Flo, bless him.

Congrats to him making the England squad. Not sure he'll play. Not in the qualifier anyway but maybe he'll get a sub appearance in the friendly. White must have burned his bridges to still not be picked given the defenders who are out. Whatever happened it looks like he won't be picked under the current regime again.

Was reflecting on Eddie's progression over the last 12 months - I was quite critical of the fact that despite giving him a new contract, he was only really handed game time when Jesus was injured. And yet, you can't argue with the improvements he's made in that time, which I think you'd really have to credit Arteta and the coaching staff with. He's really evolved as a player, even since the start of last season.

As Gabriel Jesus said the other day, it's quite something for Eddie to have worked his way through all the levels at Arsenal to become a first team player, it doesn't happen too often if you're a centre forward. Some of you will remember I was pro Eddie getting his new contract, but even I thought it was looking like a mistake last season. He looks to have gone up a couple of levels now and whilst he will never have the innate trickery of Jesus, physically he looks like he could go up against any centre back in the league.

I thought the hug he and Arteta shared at full time was quite telling, he is now very much part of the group and not just on the fringes of it.

He's hungry and has a good attitude, think back to the discussion he was having with a sulking Sambi on the Amazon documentary.

Meatwad no, but it's contributed to a player who has exceeded most people's expectations of what he could achieve.

Sicario2 - Tier 1

Imo I can’t see him being more than a 7/10 striker. His ceiling is not that high (compared to a Balogun for example). However, it doesn’t mean he can’t be a squad player here as long as our expectations are managed.

I thought he put in a really good shift v Utd and generally this season. I noticed after his good spell half way last season, he didn’t work as hard and maybe got a bit complacent. He needs to be 100 percent every game here to have a future.

Hope he does well for England, first time we’ve had an out and out striker for the NT since Ian Wright?

Yeah noticed that a little last season as well. Wasn't sure whether he got a bit complacent, which can happen when your inky competition is an injured Jesus, or he got tired pressing like made for those couple months between Jesus's injury and Trossard replacing him. Either way, the issue is a non issue so long as he is a rotation player and not a starting XI fixture player.

Eddie's on an upward trajectory so it'll be interesting to see how high he'll go - there's an outside chance he's a late bloomer who explodes in his late 20s. Either way, he's still got some ways to go - a successful season for him would be to get 10 league goals and dominate in the cup competitions, particularly in the early stages.

His goal versus Fulham was a lot of what you want from Eddie. Classy and unfussy. He's grown as a player. I wonder if he's got another level where he might lay the ball off more, and relate more to the players around him.

I think Eddie will leave eventually, either next summer or the one after. I don’t think he will ever be good enough to be first choice here so eventually he’s going to want to be the main man somewhere. In the meantime he’s proving to be a more than able deputy for Jesus. I wasn’t worried about him starting against United or thinking we need to rush Jesus back or play Trossard.

Seeing him play the one touch pass to Martinelli (for Ode's goal) was enough for me to know he's still improving. That wasn't in his locker last year.

Eh not going to fall for it... Yet. He tends to start brightly and then suddenly he can't find the back of the net for toffee.

I'll check back in in December.

Nah. Kid is definitely improving. You can see that he’s watching Jesus. His link ip play is much better than 2 years ago. He’s pressing hard as well. Jesus is still levels above him, but this guy can lead the line for a third of our games this season and we would be okay.
