Clrnc Biggest weakness in Nketiah game tbh is his tunnel vision in front of goal.

Which to be fair is also one of his biggest strengths.

Big Willie being willing and eager to shoot does not need to equate with having tunnel vision though. A better, more rounded player in that situation would ideally square the ball, not take a very low percentage pot shot. So given that I'd agree it's a weakness of Eddie's that is not sufficiently compensated by his willingness to have a crack at goal.

He has very low creative ability.
He is actually most suited to the way Arteta used him originally - as a super sub when the game is stretched. Let him run in and get chances.

What is Eddie good at

elite movement in the box to get onto the end of passes with his foot or his head. Absolute shot generation beast

What is Eddie not good at

small and weak, so he cannot work defenders the way Haaland, Toney etc and even Jesus do
cannot create, so does not bring midfielders into play from the top of the box
doesn’t make runs into the wings, again not integrating the wingers / vacating the box for the 8s to run in. So you end up with isolated and uninvolved 8s and wingers.

I’d you look at his data, he’s 90th percentile in shot production and 35th percentile in chance production. The above characteristics are what’s driving this

Qwiss He isn't going to be involved in the build up as much, just not his game but he has to be more clinical. Eddie is a great talent but if he wants to push himself to the next level those half chances at Newcastle, Everton and City he needs to be putting some of them away.

Daz I agree. I like my forwards to be aware of what's around them. Thierry, for all his goalscoring superhuman efforts was a prime example of the difference between him and an RvN type player who only thinks "goal".

Martinelli is similarish in that sense. If he's in on goal the last thing he's thinking is squaring it. Remember that goal he scored last month where the ball squeezed through the keepers legs after that brilliant Odegaard through ball? I was screaming for him to square it for the person in the middle that was free. Luckily he scored. If he didn't, the person in the middle would have been fuming.

i think with tetball, the 9 has to provide creativity. it's not ideal to have a poacher 9 in this system. that's not an fly-by-night observation. it's been evident since we were toiling along with laca playing as a 9.5, and why jesus is so important. eddies upturn and subsequent downturn in form hasn't really surprised me. in the mean, he's performed to expectations in the current system

Agree - his flaws are acceptable if he's able to hone other aspects of his game (ie. his finishing, which has always been overstated for some reason).

I thought Eddie was really good today, and I thought he was good at Palace, too. Looks like he's gone up a level or two in terms of the speed and intensity he plays at and the strength he has in the duels. Really impressed.

When he doesn’t have time to think he’s a good instinctive striker. But he’s not what we need if we want to go a level up and challenge City.

Ricky1985 he's been fairly good since he came into the team after the world cup but he's certainly improved again over the summer. He's linking up better and he's much, much stronger. As I said in the match thread too his pressing his up there with the likes of Jesus and Odegaard, he's a menace for defences. Knows how to use his body to occupy a centre half now too. I don't think he'll ever be world class but he's getting close to the likes of Watkins, Toney, etc

Eddie has been called up the England squad. Have to say, I never saw him approaching the level where he'd be considered but he's really pushed on the last couple of seasons. May never be a starter for us but pleased his hard work and commitment have paid off. I think Arteta also deserves some credit for the way he's developed him - plays a lot smarter now and has a much more rounded game.

Fair play Eddie. Every time I write him off he shuts me up but still think he can bring more to his game than ‘just’ scoring goals although as you said he’s improving in that area. Def deserves to start v Utd.
