Great news. Worst case scenario he doesn’t quite prove to be good enough and we make a few bucks, but I reckon Eddie will prove to be a good player. Just wish we had someone better than Jesus joining him.

I can't really see it with Eddie. I'm not sure that I see a 20 goal a season CF in him. He's better than Laca but I'd be disappointed if he was our #9 next year.

He ended the season really well but now that we signed him up we absolutely must not sign Jesus.

Im pretty sure we're still after a #1 striker regardless of Eddie signing a new deal. But to be fair, i could see him bagging 20 in a full season.

I think so too. His qualities are so obvious to me. Several people, from Bothroyd to Ljungberg to Wright to Henry, have insisted that he just needed to develop physically to move up a level too. It underlines how important it is to have some patience with young players. He's not quite 23 yet and he has already scored 23 goals for the Arsenal first team in a very limited number of minutes. The next couple of seasons is when he starts paying us back for the time and money that has been invested in his development, and it would have been a shame to lose out on that.

Very good signing. Instead of losing him for free and needing two new strikers we can now focus those funds on a single one. It just needs to be someone better than Jesus.

Yup. Despite not trusting him initially Arteta has always talked him up too. Worth noting too that despite his age he has less first team experience than a lot of players 2 years younger than him and it’s not really through any fault of his own. As a result his game hasn’t had the chance to refine itself as much as it could have.

I’m all for getting a top class centre forward but as far as second choice/rotational striker goes I think Eddie will prove to be good bet.

I feel content about this. I have my doubts as to his ceiling but this makes our life this summer much easier. I'm okay with him being 2nd choice/rotated but do think we may need to aim a bit higher if we get back into the Champions League.

Wow, just saw the reported salary - I get it that it's cheaper than buying a new player and Laca's wages are coming off the books but £100k pw is pretty crazy given what he's achieved in his career.

Feels very similar to the bloated wages we gave a few players who we then struggled to shift once we realised they weren't fit for purpose.

the reported salary seems a bit too high for someone who will be a rotational player. still not convinced about eddies level myself. our new striker has to be mega. jesus ain't it, as othes have said

He's a free agent. This is the sort of situation we get ourselves into all the time.

100k is reasonable considering we need to bribe him to stay and also we haven't been in UCL for a long time. Of course we have to overpay players that we really want.

These are the sort of situation United is in past decade too. Overpay and overpay

I'm hoping this big offer is because Jesus wanted CL. Splash out on a better CF now and 2 CMs.

Sportsmail understands that Arsenal’s contract offer to Eddie Nketiah is a five-year deal worth in the region of £100k-per-week. Nketiah has also been offered a huge signing on bonus, believed to be up to £5m over the course of the deal.

He'll end up on loan in 2 years and see out his contract/termination

He’s not a £100k a week striker but it is what it is.

He has a decent end to the season but again went missing when it counted v Spurs and Newcastle, I feel his praise has been overblown. Still got a lot to prove.

Let him play Europa League and Carabo Cup games next season but we still need a main number 1.

Thought Eddie was one of our better players v Newcastle, he's done really well over the last couple of months and if him signing on for more means freeing up resources to bring in extra quality at centre forward and centre mid, I'm all for it.

Arguably, if Arteta had brought him in earlier, we might have made 4th.
