I don't think anyone's seriously thinking of containing this now, you may as well count sand on a beach. Even if we tested all 8 million people in London today, they could just as likely catch the virus tomorrow.
It's a virus that's spread exponentially around the world and estimated to infect 40-60% people. Any vaccine is 18 months away, healthcare isn't equipped for this scale and I suspect most governments have accepted this and sought to contain it to give them a bit more time to put a plan in place.
The best we can hope for is that your city or town doesn't become a hotspot - I suppose what's advantageous for most cities is that the population tends to be younger and therefore less at risk of any complications. What we can do is not transmit the disease to people that are in fact high risk.
