The restriction is events with over 500 people here right now, but I think it's only a matter of time until they change that too. The Swedish hockey league has been suspended until next month, but I doubt it'll restart at all.

I can't imagine the restrictions will let up until the number of daily cases start to drop beneath R0.

There's another COBR meeting this afternoon here - expecting them to officially roll out some social distancing measures.

We're actually doing a trial work from home tomorrow and the City itself is pretty dead today, I wouldn't be surprised if people have been tipped off and preparing to go cold turkey shortly.

In Germany after a full week of state and federal ministers contradicting each other some cities like Frankfurt have today announced a ban on events from a 1000 people up. Note Germany ranks 7th in infections worldwide.

Deeply disturbing how far politicians will go to preserve industry interests at the expense of human lives. No one able to make a decision such as calling off a game or at least playing it behind closed doors but last week already they lifted the Sunday motorway ban for lorries because supermarkets can't restock quickly enough.

Mclaren has pulled out of f1 after one of their team members tested positive. F1 will definitely be suspended now.

UEFA also rumoured to announce the suspension of UEL and UCL after today's games.

Basically whole world is going into full lock down mode.

What was the countries doing when they had 2 full month of time to prepare for the outbreak?

Had to wait for it to become real. Seeing a western country (Italy) go into meltdown got people’s attention. I think that’s it. It no longer became ‘their’ affliction.

Couple of my colleagues have just received emails about their kids schools letting them know about protocol and home learning portals etc. Something's definitely about to change here soon

This is where you need government leadership. If schools are sending kids home and parents are still at work, how do lower income parents make shit function? Scary.

School's haven't closed yet - most schools are run by the state anyway but it seems like an announcement is imminent?

If "herd immunity" were the plan that would mean infecting a majority of the population region by region, which would in turn mean up to hundreds of thousands of deaths in the absence of a vaccine. Truly shocking concept.

I'm thinking that's not the plan, and Robert Peston's a credulous joker. I know people have used the word "cull" but those sorts of losses wouldn't be politically tenable.

Logarithmic scales are fine, but there should be a mandatory notice screaming "this is a log scale" stamped across each chart that uses one.

I've read there are verified cases in 44 states in the US, if that's true the Europe travel ban is nothing but chaos magic.

I know I said I wasn't a Leninist, but (promise I won't start too many sentences this way) this is an insightful read from Mike Davis relating this pandemic and the state of health care in the USA.
